Default maggot in cannellini beans

Hi brought some beans from Asda and made some soup, the daughter found one with a maggot climbing out. Was wondering if anyone has ever had something like this happen and is it worth complaining about ta.

If the maggot was live I doubt it was from the tin originally, possibly from the other fresh ingredients in the soup?

I also doubt it was from the tin, they turn into flies in about a week, if it was canned with an egg in I cant imagine it survived, its possible the can had been breached, we had some dog food that had been dropped and was crawling.

Did it look like it had been breached or dented ?

The maggot was coming out the bean, the bean had a hole in it. I opened the tin and put them in the soup cooled it and put it in the fridge 8pm last night. My daughter had some miday today and the maggot was coming out the bean.

Egg probably laid during the cooling period then.

So a 1/2 inch maggot could be laid and hatched in a 16 hr or so period and eat its way into a bean ,never knew they could be so quick to grow ,the funny thing is it was still alive and had just come out the microwave after 4 min lol

It couldn't have been in the can if it was still alive. I would be fairly certain that the maggot 'arrived' in the soup when it was cooling and and had a munch on the bean for brekkie today. Apparently they don't tase too bad if you don't microwave them for too long

It could have eaten through it since last night. If the maggot was in the can of beans during the canning process and survived, I hope you didn't kill it. It must be some kind of Souper-Maggot..... (scuse the pun)

During the canning process, the contents will be heated very quickly in the sealed can. Thanks to Boyles Law, the pressure will also increase substantially. If the maggot was in the can and didnt get cooked to death it would almost certainly have imploded due to the pressure. What else did you put in the soup?

I'll have a fiver on the sweet potatoes as the culprit. The maggot would have a better chance boing boiled at 1 atm and having a spin in the blender than being steam boiled and pressurised, althought you would have to say that the chances of either are fairly slim

You don't have anything else in the fridge that could have been the cause? - Dead sheeps head hanging from the roof perchance?

er... if ASDA admitted fault NO £5 is not a good deal... your looking at hundreds.

Imagine the papers got hold of that story ?

It was your daughters birthday party, 50 people where put off the food, £400 of food wasted.

as for the mouse face... WTF
