I'd have held it there until the batteries went flat.

1.5 seconds I've seen clips of these things being used in real life. The officers tend to "give it death", not 1.5 seconds. Should have gotten him into the street, unsupported, and let him eat tarmac....just like the people he is going to use it on.

Could not happen to a better chap

I personally think that the use of the taser is very dangerous since it is going to be issued to all coppers and sooner or later someone will die from its effects. The coppers will tend to use it indiscriminately when there is an anti social problem, ie a person not agreeing with the copper in a strong manner and there is no way the copper would know if the other person is fit enough or has a serious medical problem. It should only be used if there is threat to life or similar.

my mates' brother, who was in CID, said all officers have to be shot with a Tazer and have pepper spray/cs gas sprayed at them just so they know the implications of using them.

I know they get done with CS gas, got a mate who is a copper and in his first week after training all the new recruits were taken out down by the beach and sprayed with CS gas. Said it stings like hell, but as they were told the worst thing you can do is rub your eyes - that's why they were down the beach so they could turn into the wind and let it blow it out!

Will have to ask him when it is he gets zapped with a Taser!

Sounds like an ideal job - where you get to shoot people all day long

What's barmy Brunstrom's next plan? See how his officers handle being stabbed with kitchen knives?

Why? Cop s dont pull out their stick everytime so why will they use this?

As i said in the other thread - I don't think he was tazered at all. The guy holding the tazer had it down by his side - not pointing it out at the chief cop guy.

Looks fake to me.

Here's a better quality version than the one on the Government Propaganda website:

YouTube - Wales Police Chief Richard Brunstrom gets Tasered

Apparently they say he was already connected so the other flatfoot didn't have the added complication of aiming and firing the device.

I can't see how 50K volts wouldn't have been conducted through the 'Mad Mullah' and into his two minions, so yes I agree it has to be faked.

TBH it's not very reassuring when even those at the top of the organisation are happy to lie to the public like this in such a brazen fashion.

just a quick query on this one....

what if a person who gets tazered (for whatever reason), happens to have a pacemaker or something like that fitted?

You just missed the whole point of the post.

I think like UB that the so called demo was a fake, the copper with the taser did indeed have his hand at his side with the gun pointing down during Brunstrom's big act. What confidence indeed can we have in people who are seen to be conning the public.

Simple really. That person should comply with the police's instructions; then they wouldn't get tazered.

Give lip, get zapped.

No sign of the wires which were obvious in the demo with the silver sheet earlier and no sign of the prongs being removed after either.

When supposedly highly trained firearms officers can drill and innocent electrician on the underground, one wonders how much of an itchy trigger finger your average plod will have when they are told these things are harmless?

Been a few deaths in the US from these and with what would otherwise seem to be healthy people

Olly for once in your life stop nit picking: He was an illegal immigrant. If he complied with teh law, he would never have been in the UK to get shot.

Missed my point didn't you...don't follow Police instruction. Get Tazered.

If you die, well that's Dawinism (and this is comming from a bloke with a hereditary heart disorder, even if I didn't know that, I would still comply to given instructions anyway).

This is the exact point I was making in my earlier post.

Being in the country illegally in De Meneze's case does not mean that he deserved to get mown down by trigger happy coppers!

Nit picking, a guy lost his life for a "minor" offence, that's pretty much on par to shooting people for speeding.

Missed my point didn't you...don't follow Police instruction. Get Tazered.

And if the person about to be zapped is deaf?

Nit picking as in using a case of shooting an illegal immgrant by plain clothered firearms officers in a extreme scienario to condemn the use of tazers by uniformed police. It's a weak argument; So is the deaf one too (the person would still have to resist arrest).

OK then. If you think its such a bad idea.....

What BETTER way is there to aprehend somebody who is resisting arrest (possibly armed with a knife) and not following a Police officer's instructions?

CS gas, repeated clubbing with a baton, shouting "your under arrest", shoot them in the leg with a gun, or how about focusing more efforts on speeding drivers instead?

Shark Man, I think it's not the methods being questioned so much as peoples lack of faith in the system.
