Well foof me, i didnt think i would ever be party to it but i have noticed it a lot over the past few days.
I bought a Transit 280 05 plate a few weeks back from a friend to help me with doing some work around the farm & at the shop, its came in very handy & is great for what i need it for.
So on Sunday i take it down to the local petrol station at Lanark parks up fills a few canisters with petrol & goes to pay, i says my usual hello & the bitch didnt even notice me, took my money & grunted something as i walked out.
Today i used it to go pick up some bathroom furniture from Glasgow, if i had to slam on the brakes once due to ******** not letting me change lanes i had to do it a thousand times.
So back to the bitch in the petrol station, last week i was in filling up the Range Rover, the foofin cow couldnt stop nattering, yes i was dressed well & not in ripped jeans but **** me does the above give her an excuse not to talk to me Also when either in the merc or the RR lane changing isnt an issue, people actually wave to you & when given respect, respect is given back.

Recently Stephen, Ive driven a very large lorry for a living. People never fail to talk down to me, assuming that Im an idiot. The look on their faces always amuses me when they hear me speak (Im quite well-spoken). In my experience, people are always looking for someone to talk down to; it makes them feel more secure about their own position.

Thats the scarey thing, even in tesco's the other day i was in scruffy jeans & t-shirt covered in paint & no one holds the door open for you but when in a shirt & trousers people are always polite & hold the door open.
Its disgusting to be honest. Manners cost nothing.

When I had my Scoob but was driving either my van or the wifes BMW, Scooby drivers always seemed to think me either a ****** van driver or a ****** sales rep. Would never let me change lanes or let me in at junctions etc etc......
I am neither.

I now find it quite funny and just think 'if only you knew'.....

I would imagine the women in the petrol station gets talked down to a good few times to day by blokes in ripped jeans and a van hence her desire to not converse with you. I do however expect most blokes with good manners and well dressed may converse with her in a polite manor and thus she reciprocates.

Apply the same to road manners. Stereotypes tend to be there for a reason and while not always right they are often not far from the truth.

PS I could be wrong and you probably boned the woman's sister and never called when you said you would

when im trying to change lanes in my white transit I give well enough indication time then if the person is not wiling to let me in I’ll start moving over and squeeze them out.

I'm probably the scruffiest rich git in the area. Rarely will you find me suited and booted.

Only last week did I fill up the Monaro...surrounded by suits in the rep mobiles and a couple of (probably mortgage/finance laden) wannabes. Who gets the most attention...yup me.

Dressed in jeans, ripped and covered in oil and muck from shifting old engines earlier the same day, and hair greasier than a manky frying pan with my pits smelling rather funky as the shower broke a few days ago and I was yet to fix it.

I still got more positive attention and interest from the attendant bint.

(I've actually had meetings with bank managers dressed like this...and it was all on my terms, as I didn't need their money :thumb)

As for driving vans and changing lanes....My last van had a sticker on the back reading "If you can't see my face in the mirrors...I can't see you" Which is true....handy thing "blind spots". Helps to educate car drivers that they should never drive alongside a HGV or van for any longer than what is needed to make a swift overtake. However somtimes they need reminding about blind spots by being "sqeezed out "

Although for some reason, women will not let the Monaro out in traffic or allow me to change lanes. I know its a ***** sustitute, but getting their knickers in a bunch over 20ft of roadspace is somewhat petty. With men its the exact opposite.

I once went to a polo match at Guards polo club.

Turned up in my battered mk3 Escort and parked up amongst the Rollers, Bentleys etc.

Walked into the Alfa Romeo tent and took a complimentary champagne from a passing waitress.

Some bloke came up to me looking like I had just been scraped off his shoe and he looked like he was going to try to throw me out.

"Can I help you?" He grunted.

"Hi There - Jasey - Hertz Leasing buyer"

How he changed his tone from there on

Im getting a tranny on friday, white vans are the best things on the road,

park anywhere put your haz lights on,
modern vans are as comfy as a car
the only downside is everyone want someone moving it takes all sat and they give you a tenner thinking theyve done you a favour.

I also have the firms e220 elegance as well, but prefer the go anywhere park anywhere not bothered about pulling out attitude that driving a van has.
