ICQ

its a program that allows you to see who is online on the internet.
you add friends to it so when they come online you see them appear within icq.
you can then send messages / chat with them.
the newer versions have lots more than this to ! icq phone / sms messages....etc etc
its similar to msm messenger.
useful little program.
always have mine running.

The first thing to do it get your mates on your list. You go to add/invite users and either enter their ICQ number (easyist) or put in their name, e-mail address etc and search for them. It will then show you wether they are online or not.
When you first register someone it will ask you for authorisation from the person. Once they have done this you will be able to see their name inyour contacts list. You can then e-mail, chat etc.

You guys ought to try Trillian. It incorporates ICQ / MSN / AOL / and Yahoo messengers into one interface.
I tried it and haven't used ICQ since.

Odigo also supports icq, msn, yahoo and AIM thru its own interface which has some nice features like showing other odigo users who are on the same web page as u etc.
http://www.odigo.com
Its also handy in firewalled offices, as you can set it to send messahes over http thru your browser (?) so i doesnt need an open port like icq/msn/aim/yahooo. Just an open browser session
