I doubt they even know themselves - they are not in a very enviable position at present with the U.S. breathing down their necks and the Indians justifiably demanding a crackdown on the terror groups striking at them from bases in Pakistan. They are the real villains of the whole harbouring terrorists etc scene if the truth be known, not the Afghans, they sponsored the Taliban as a way of controlling their neighbour.

Also ironic that the US backed, trained and supplied the Taliban when the Russians occupied Afghanistan.

The US trained the Mujahideen not the Taliban. The Taliban came to power in mid 90 s, 5 years after the Russians had been kicked out woth their tail between thier legs. Taliban were sent over from Pakistan.

Which American Govt. funded/trained/sponsored the IRA? Can't remember any myself, just a few Boston based Irish Americans going round Cheers-style bars with collection buckets.
