jobs....
few on here know i hate my job, its crap, but for what it is, the monies ok.
on circa 21k a year for working in a distribution warehouse, which for 40 hours a week is better than most 6.00ph jobs in this area (s****horpe, lincs)
tried the usual job centre plus webiste. nothing much come up.
anyone else got any good sites to look through for jobs.
havent any outstanding qualifications like degrees etc, but i did well at school and have 11 gcse's, an equivalent course to 2 b's at a-level standard so im not chav stoopid at least.
i dunno what i would be good at really. i need a change but moving is currently out the question.
as people know, ok, i can draw, and im a budding part time bedroom dj too, but how do i put this into a job/career i could enjoy.
if it wasnt the money paying my debts off, id go into some easy labourers/factory job and toss it off, maybe persue my drawing talents further.
any suggestions, as i see many on here have made successful careers in many fields on here. i guess im down in the dumps, and im genuinley looking to make a change now... even at 23.
so webistes, suggestions (constructive critisism i can take)
cheers
andy

Deffo scafolding if you don't mind the work. I know a few lads who do this and make upto £200 per day all transport to job etc paid for. Just look at how many new developments/buildings are going up and the new found aversion to ladders of most tradesman and you'll never be short of work. One guy runs his own scaffold company locally and clears a couple of K a week net.

Im only a couple of years older than you and if you dont get out of a job that you dont like you will turn in to a bitter and twisted ******* like some of the people i meet! They seem to be jealous because they have been stuck in the same job for years that they dont enjoy, dont let it happen to you!
Otherwise you will still be thinking the same in 10 years time and 20 years and 30 years and then you will probably retire after working there all your life!

Yep I know it's bad. I live in the south east (Suffolk).
The company I work for isn't that big and the 3 directors are brothers, so that probably doesn't help.
At the beginning of the year I had a review (another years service, been there 3 and a half years so far) and I said me and the girl friend want to buy our own house so I can't say I’m going to be here in another years time as I need to be earning more money etc **hint hint**.
They said yes we can understand that, if you get offers please come and see us first and we will see what we can sort out.
I thought cheeky *******, happy to pay me pea nuts while I’m still there but when I may leave then they will consider giving me more £'s. Would be nice if they offered me more before I went looking for something else but they obviously want to save their £'s! *****
I'm going to tell them soon that I have been asked in for a few interviews so if you have people contacting you re a reference you will know what is going on.
Hopefully will then force them into some sort of action
Sorry to hijack the thread.

not a chance mate, the work in the oil will keep going on for quite a few years yet.
theres still a lot of work out and about and when it's all dry here in the north sea, we'll just go over to other countrys and work over there, like we do now
oh, i work in the directional drilling side of things at the moment and have quit my present job as i'm hacked off with the amount of time spent away form home, am moving over to the logging side of things, still getting about the same amount of money but less, a lot less days away offshore

It's a myth that there is good money in IT. I want to scream at those Computeach ads promising 35K to people who have just done a course and have no experience.
The only people who get anywhere near that sort of money are the project managers and people with some obscure skill that is currently in demand. If you're just doing the standard Microsoft Windows / Exchange / AD / SQL stuff then dont expect much more than £21K. The job market is flooded with such people and most of them are thick.

was talking to a guy at work last night, and we pretty much agreed most the worthwhile jobs out there tend to be advertised by word of mouth.
i havent many contacts as im only 23 and have what... 5 years work experience in 2 jobs, both distribution based. its just a case that im soo fed up.
im willing to try most things, bar heights, ie window cleaner etc .
im not a retard, and im regurlarly checking the job centre website, but everythings all factory work, or you need to have uber qualifications. my current problem is the money for the job i do. its trapped me as i have a mortgage and debt to pay.
i dare say if i found a suitable job o bugger off too, id even work more hours for the same money.

i have considered it, but its the training aspect. i would be buggered financial wise until i had a steady tattoo job or my own parlour. its a shame too, as recently more chavs are getting "battle scars" to impress theyre pregnant mrs' so the business has never been as fruitful.

Andy, have you ever thought of studying at home on a night? You can combine two things, keeping your employment & training for a new career. Just a thought. . . . .

If you are considering a new career then, unfortunately you may have to sacrifice something to gain another, if you know what I mean.
This decision I cannot make for you, but I know you enjoy drawing. Maybe there could be something else?
Whatever path you choose to take, I wish you all the very best

COB .... I got my first Job with Astrazeneca straight from uni and my initial salary was 13,147 as a Microbiologist (back in 1999) I am now 30, stayed within the pharmaceutical world and now earn 54,444. All I did was kept hassling my bosses to let me study or do courses in my own time and learn new skills within the current employer. I do not know the situation with your employer, but I think sitting down and telling them you want to move on up the ladder cannot hurt. You never know, they may have courses / options available to you.

I'm amazed so many people think IT is still a gold mine, and as a result every job has about 100 applicants now, further reducing the rates!
Yes you can still get good money, but thats true for any sector.
