Default Citroen/peugeot pee on anti 4x4 lentil munchers

Nice one In fact everyone seems to be jumping on the softroader bandwagon.Mazda as well.Surprised but great news in this save the penguin/pay more tax /drive what we make you decade.

Yes,they are practical for families.Yes it is great to be quite high up.No, the emissions aren't that bad,in fact better than 'normal' cars,no I don't like people carriers, most of these softroaders are actually two wheel drive not 4x4's,yes I have one (nissan) and no,it will never be used for the school run and no,we can't fit all the caboodle and gubbins into a prius with a roof box on top

Citroƫn C-Crosser details released following Peugeot counterpart - Autoblog

(wouldn't buy a pug or citroen though, just like the thinking).

why not just buy a large saloon car instead of these monstrosities? It would do all you need plus go round corners and stop better. Always feel people who buy these have some form of small man syndrome.

A subaru is a performance car though and you can use that performance. These big on-road 4x4's Are less practical than a good saloon car and the thing they could be used for ie going off road they never are so effectively pointless. I respect people right to choice but I cant understand why people buy these things.

The answer is simple. Kids.

seats, boot etc are all at a height whereby you can put the kids + gubbins straight into the car. With a normal car you have to bend down (put your back out ), fiddle more etc. You also get the high driving position, not my thing but lots of people like this.

I'd dispute that they are any less or more practical though.

Personally, if (& when) I have kids I'd still go the large estate route probably as I don't care much for high driving positions and will risk my back I also prefer the better driving dynamics of a car with a lower COG but for many people this isn't important or a priority, which is fair enough.

I would have thought it was harder having to lift things up into the boot etc. of course I'll take your word it's easier as I don't have kids.

If people want a Large Saloon they'll buy one.
If people want a SUV they'll buy one.

It's called choice. Subaru's are hardly the most eco friendly car are they? But we all take the choice to buy and drive one.
A large Saloon/Estate car can polute more than an SUV. Get worse mpg than an SUV. Has the same footprint as an SUV. An X5 is no bigger (footprint) than a 5 series.

I'm not denying any of that. All I'm saying is as a vehicle I cant see why you'd buy one over a good saloon car if you're judging them on the merits of being used on road.
