Nigel’s key to keeping Tap among England’s loudest bands. In "This is Spinal Tap," he pointed out to director Marty DiBergi that the settings on Tap’s Marshall amps could extend beyond the standard 10 mark. Nigel: "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder." DiBergi: "Why don’t you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?" Nigel (after taking a moment to let this sink in): "These go to 11."

I've been to band practice tonight. Quite loud, except we've been learning "Fluorescent Adolescent" wich isn't a mega loud song.

I think the Frank & The Furters spinoff might attempt Knights of Cydonia for the 8th sept gig, however.

If it's too loud then you're...........well I'm sure you've heard the phrase

A guitar amp is like a sports car - they're desinged to work best in certain ways. A sports car isn't designed to work at its best when going slowly, it needs speed and likewise a guitar amp works best with the right amount of volume. Plus as a guitarist you get so much more out of playing if you can 'feel' the amp more!

Just enjoy it!

If it's valve powered then yes, that's how you get the sweet saturation. If it's solid state, then it doesn't really matter and he's doing it to wind you up

It's you playing all that ropey 80s music - you've driven him to it - he's rebelling. (Can't say I blame him either)

Thumbs up

I've been to band practice tonight. Quite loud, except we've been learning "Fluorescent Adolescent" wich isn't a mega loud song.

We played it at our Local Charity Festival (T in the car Park) a few weekends ago and it went down a storm....

The afternoon bands were all doing the usual Sweet Home Alabama, Back in Black etc etc and we could see the youngish crowd just getting bored and lost.....

Slight hasty re-write of our set followed:

Crazy - Ray LaMontagne (Gnarls Barkley)
Bright Idea - Orson
When the Sun goes down - Arctic Monkeys
New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
Ooh Lah - The Kooks;
Flourescent Adolescent - Arctic Monkeys
Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs
Love me Like you - Magic Numbers
Mardy Bum - Arctic Monkeys

For once we judged it just right ....normally so difficult if you try and cater for all tastes at these things with mixed types of bands playing..

You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in your nightdress, dicarded all the naughty nights for niceness, landed in a very common crisis Classic .....and went down soooooo well

Come on Bubba....you lot should have had that one in the bag a while ago

It's quite tricky to do properly, isn't it? We've had to miss a few practices owing to circumstances recently, but we've pretty much nailed it, now. We do Mardy bum as well.

Took Liam (our drummer) a wee while to get the stops in the middle sorted.... 2 then 3 etc ..... (in fact .....took the rest of us alot longer, he's the one with the real talent !!!!! )

He's a drum and percussion teacher for Midlothian High Schools, so at least he roughly knows what he is doing....but god help the rest of us sometimes

Our old set is here.......mostly all changed since we added a second guitarist (livened up a huge bit), but just not updated on the site

Jock Johnson Tribute Band Edinburgh Gigs Live Music

Demos on the site are seriusly crap and well out of date, recorded when we were starting out as an acoustic 3 piece...! Oh How things change in bands They got us a few gigs in Edinburgh and got us up and running at least,,,

My amp has a nice control **** on the back, so you can crank the amp up as much as you want, but keep the wattage to a neighbour friendly level (not bothered about Donna and the kids lol)
