Murray: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool."
James: "Well, that should put them out then."

I can put up with it now that I don't have to listen to the screeching of Murray. I will of course Not be watching the race if he is to be doing the business

Take note of the original post. He'll be on 5 Live which shouldn't affect your viewing.

I think Murrray was an outstanding commentator who sadly went a bit beyond his sell by date.

ITV do not have great commentators - we do need a new legend. However Murray should have quit five years earlier and left untainted memories.

What memories of him are tainted, particularly?

Mine

No specific thing - for me he just went beyond his time and he started to grate with me. Too nostalgic, too much of the past.

It's a personal taste thing. I don't think there are any commentators as good as him now - however he was from a past era.

Is he commentating for the duration ? Over on the ITV F1 Forum they seem to think he's doing 1/2 hourly updates

He went on for too long like Rannoch said,he was terrible at the end and didn't have a clue and brundle would have to correct him on numerous occasions almost embarrassing for him.

I thought you were denigrating his ability because of his "Murrayisms" Looks like my mistake then. Apologies for getting it wrong!

I met him for a chat at Goodwood last year at the Revival meeting. He is a hell of a nice bloke and as sharp as a tack.

Listened whilst watching at the start...."3 lights, 4 lights, 5 lights......and GO ! GO ! GO !" The rain even made the race a bit like the classics of yesteryear. A bit of Fleetwood Mac beforehand would have sealed the deal

I'm no fan of Walker but at least he isn't that pustule on the backside of F1 ITV commentary James 'Retard' Allen. Honestly if I could remove that man from the face of the earth without fear of retribution I would do.

I hope and pray for the day someone baseball bats him round the back of the head on camera with a loud 'smeck' of wood on bone.

His autobiography makes interesting reading if anyone fancies knowing a bit more about the man.

He did start making a lot of mistakes but at least he was old and had an excuse, not like the current bottom burp that holds the mic.

5t.

I agree re Murrays book - a great read. If you want some other great reads in F1 then I would strongly recommend the books by Prof Sid Watkins - what an amazing bloke!

Amazon.co.uk: Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Formula One: Books: Sid Watkins

Amazon.co.uk: Beyond the Limit: Books: Sid Watkins

Edited to add the URLs - an excellent history of recent-ish F1 years and damned funny to boot!

Great pity Murray wasn't in to replace that **** James Allen for the ITV coverage of the race - would have been fantastic, as with it being such an eventful race there would have been a lot of emotion in his commentry.
