Default Garmin map-update unlock code required please.

I have a Garmin Streetpilot C310 sat nav unit and have the Europe v9 update map cd.

In order to run this I need the Garmin unlock code, which they want to charge me for (and not just a small amount either ).

Now, I probably shouldn't ask and no doubt someone will slap my wrist for doing so, but is there any alternative way of getting an unlock code , preferably free, or at least cheaper.

Thanks

JBL

Do you ask for copies of people's car keys as well?

If you don't ask then you never get.
Thanks for the response

What you're requesting is illegal.

I have no desire to cause offence , upset anyone and most certainly not to do anything that may be construed as illegal.

But on the www there are so many 'free' alternatives to purchased ones I saw no harm in politely asking if this might be the case here.

Sorry if I mis-understood your intent, but if garmin are charging for their software, do you think "free" unlock codes are likely to be legal?

My use of 'free' was a poor choice as I don't mind paying.
I was simply looking for an alternative source of code, in the same way that there are many genuine www sites that offer free/cheaper software alternatives to microsoft/apple ones. Sourceforge ,FSF and Freedownload all offer cheaper/free alternatives and are genuine sites.
I was looking for something similar for the Garmin code as I did not automatically think that they might be the only source.
If they are then if I want to use the update I shall have to purchase a code from them, but as I said, if I don't ask then I can't find out.

Cheers

Other, cheaper sat nav software is available, but will it run on your device?

The Garmin Nuvi I bought a couple of weeks ago had the unlock code in the box, did you buy it from new?
Still looking for the speed cam database to put onto it though.

Yes, new 18 months or so ago and there is a yellow slip in the box that has serial, authorisation and unlock code, but this is of no use. The process for updating wants $88 and then they send the code direct, I believe, to the web install page.

Cheers
