Suggestions for Guitar effects pedal
Hi all,
Would very much like to pick up the Guitar again. Stopped playing a while back, just didn't have time.
I'd like to get myself an effects pedal, something easy to use with a decent range of user customisable effects and definable patches and not too pricey. I May even be temped to look on Fleabay.
Any suggestions as to a good brand/model?
Best wishes,
Paul

Gotta be looking at the Boss muli-fx then really GT3 or 5...... imho
The Zoom stuff is good, but they all sound the same. A very distinctive Zoom sound.
Otherwise, it's Digitech, a cheap option is to Ebay for an Alesis Quadraverb GT......

Line 6 Floor POD for entry level ubiquity.
Boss ME50 for ease of use (it acts like a bunch of stompboxes).
Boss GT8 or POD XT Live for everything you're ever likely to need.
TC G-System because you can.
Line 6 probably has the edge in terms of amp models (though it's entirely personal, and every b*gger and his uncle has got one, so uniqueness is not a strong point), though I prefer the Boss effects overall.
Not keen on Zoom for the reason mentioned in the previous post, and, whilst Digitech do some good mod effects (though not a patch on TC), their amp modelling isn't a patch on the other two.
Prices tend to be pretty even across the board ('price beating' has become the norm), unless you want something exotic. For more boutique stuff (a good wah, as mentioned by the first poster, or analogue distortion is always worth the money) GAK do some, but try Sounds Great and Charlie Chandler's as well; The big boys tend not to cover the weird s@&t.

I'm using a Zoom G7.1ut multi-effects pedal, and I find it very good for live work. It's a couple of hundred quid, easy to programme and easy to access the patches live. It's extremely solidly-built and has a pedal that's assignable for wah effects, volume control tremelo rate, etc.

"...I'd like to get myself an effects pedal..."
Please don't. Even Hendrix couldn't make one sound good. Horrible things. Maybe get a bottle-neck, but use it sparingly

Invest in a better amp I've got a zoom gfx-8, which was used quite a bit with my Hughes & Kettner amp. I bought a Mesa/Boogie amp, and now use my zoom as a guitar tuner
What sort of sound are you looking for? What style of music do you play, or want to play?

Forgot about the Line 6 stuff - really good too
Don't knock it until you've tried it, BUT the Behringer "pod" ripoff, is actually quite good
DAn
ps not talking about this as a guitarist, but as a producer/engineer who's spent more hours than he cares to mention getting decent sounds from kit!!

For a rich & full sound you need 3 types of pedal...
1. Distortion/Overdrive which clips the signal and adds harmonics
2. Modulation e.g. Flanger, Phaser or Chorus
3. Delay which will do echo, slap & reverb
Thats the basics, then you can add wah, compressor, pitch shifter etc. So buy whatever you don't already have!
