Looking for a bit of help.
My 11 year old son would like to take up go-carting.
Now I have no idea where to start. Most of the local go-cart tracks don't let kids unto the track.

So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Grant

Your profile says 'Herts'. Rye House do karting for kids, AFAIK. My son wants to have a go when he's 8 (February), and in an unrelated event I was also thinking of buying a kart. Some useful links:

UK Karting
Association of British Kart Clubs
Deavinsons (Rye House) under 'Arrive and Drive', 'Under 16s'

That UK Karting link from Carl is at the heart of British karting. That's the place to start.

Post a question on the Notice Board and you'll get loads of help and advice. Take him indoors first and see how you get on.

For your sake, I hope he's useless and hates it or before long you'll be racing for real outdoors and looking at bankruptcy.

No, seriously, my family have had some fantastic years kart racing all over the UK. My son turned out to be rather too good and we just had to stop as the cost of top-flight competition is just huge, if that makes sense. Won a few races along the way though, and finished third in the British Junior Championship.

To see your lad take the chequered flag will be the biggest thrill of your life.

Good luck. And keep buying those lottery lickets

Richard

PS Edited to add go to the Autosport Show at the NEC in early Jan. There's a big karting section.

Hoppy got it spot on, Karting is a fantastic sport to get into. I had 6 hugely enjoyable years at it and packed up about 3 years ago. The cadet and junior classes were extemely competitive. As I recall the Cadets Dads were allways moaning about the huge cost of running offspring. If your son is 11 then I guess you would probably be looking at the Junior TKM class which I think offers relativly good value for money. My own son is only 4 but you can bet your life that as soon as he hits 8 he be in a Kart(If not before). What the heck, I might even have another bash myself.

Good Luck

Les
