Yeh i know what you will say when i say that i am a traffic warden, boo hiss and all that, heard it all before to be honest.
Anyway, do you think i did the right thing today when i spotted a mates car parked on a double yellow line in a restricted parking area and i issued him with a ticket.
To me a car is just a car, they shouldn`t be parked in the wrong place. Before you start on me, i sent him a text message to get back to his car within 15 mins otherwise it would be towed away, he must have had his phone switched off as he didn`t make it back in time and i had to ring for a tow truck to get his car removed.

In response to the thread title, no, I don't think you did right! Unless it was actually causing an obstruction then I would've left it for another wasp to deal with!

Look its about doing the right thing here and in my opinion i upheld the law, if someone parked a car over the front of your drive blocking you from gaining access to your house and a traffic warden was about and did nothing about it because it was his mates car then what would you say to him ?
Their is no sentiment in business, i had a job to do.

OK, sure it's a windup, however my responses should it be a 'real' scenario
Do you think you were acting in the spirit of the law or the letter of the law? Are these rules more important than friendship? What would happen if you were driving aforementioned mate and crept over the speed limit? Would you be perfectly happy him taking you there and then to the local police station shopping you in to taking fine and points?
Is this not abusing the system using your position to alert a member of the public (insider information etc.). I assume, since you seem to adhere to the rules, that you will immediately inform your superiors that you are using inside information to alert people that they may be about to be ticketed giving them a chance to get off the ticket.

I am a bit confused by this thread
Possibly a wind up, I don't know....
If you were a police officer and you had evidence a friend of yours was doing something illegal, ie, dealing drugs etc, would you turn a blind eye or do your job?
Food for thought....and no, I am not sticking up for the thread starter, just twisting the scenario

I think you could have planted some coke and/or some child **** in the car at the very least. These drivers who flout the law deserve all they get - they are bringing society down IMHO

Whether its a wind up or not, if my car had been parked there and you'd booked me and let your mate off, I'd be fooking tamping, so in that respect you did the right thing.
Of course, if you felt the need to ask for advice here, then you are either feeling guilty or your mate has told you to **** off and don't bother calling him again - in which case offer to pay the fine yourself as a guesture of friendship.
