It should happen like NEVER... I am out on my birthday pissup on Saturday night (30th). A group of rowdy fellas staggering from pub to pub, many of whom enjoy a smoke with a pint... What will happen at midnight? Will the SS run in and take all the ash trays and start handing out fines?
I do hope so.
I havent been arrested for a while and each time I have, they always let me out before breakfast time
I'm looking forward to smoking in many many bars on 07.01.07 ooops I mean 01.07.07

Well it's had the desired effect on me. It was either give up pubs or give up smoking, so I decided to give up smoking.
I haven't had a *** since Sunday night, that's the longest I have gone without for about 20 years.
I am finding it surprisingly easy - Thanks in the main to Allen Carrs book.

The ban is not from midnight, you can still smoke in pubs and clubs until they close at whatever their licensing laws state. e.g The pub I work in can close as late as 3am. When they open up on the Sunday......No smoking ban starts!

I agree Sideways. I smoked every day from 16 to 32 1/2 and the night after my engagement do I woke up feeling like the beer monkey had given me a right good hiding. I was sick for two more days and couldnt face a cig. Then come the Thursday I thought "I've come this far, lets keep it up".
Weeks later, cravings, sweats, sleepless nights, irritablilty all over I was OK...
I now only smoke in the pub (ironically) as I like a cig with a pint as much as some like a pack of Pork Scratchings or a game of pool.
Like thousands of others who smoke as an addiction or socially with a pint. Most of the lads I know have plans in place to continue their social activities, with cigs and without pubs. Friday night has always been lads pub night, from next Friday, it's card school night, bbq night, wii night etc... So our local loses out and we dont have to spend time huddled round a pub doorway for hours on end
All the non smokers who dont know any smokers get the pubs to themselves - literally! Everyone's a winner!
I'm coming around to this smoking ban malarky

here in wales, the stay away smokers never really stayed away, they just go outside the pub for a smoke, and the pubs are a nice place to be in now, with no smoke haze, or smelling clothes when you come home...

I tried with patches etc, but this time I had a blood vessel burst inside my eye. Although mostly down to my diabetes the docs said smoking was probably a factor too as its a major contributer to blindness - which I didn't know!! At 36 I'd rather keep my sight. After lots of laser surgery its almost back to normal now.
I used the nasal spray at lunchtime and one piece of that crap tasting gum on the drive home from work. I also watched the Carr DVD - hmmm not sure whether or not it helped. 5 months on I know I'll never go back thank god.
Now I'm a touch heavier, tbh dont feel any fitter (although I was reasonably fit before) but dont stink and suprisingly hangovers aren't as bad! Weird eh?!

Allen Carr's (RIP) book is the way to do it
Had to read it a couple of times before it had the desired effect, but having read it once, I knew it was the best way to bin smoking (having previously failed trying countless other ways including hypnotherapy, NRT, cold turkey.
Amazon.co.uk: The Only Way to Stop Smoking Permanently (Penguin Health Care & Fitness): Books: Allen Carr
Stopped on April 9th 2005 after 22 years of puffing away and never looked back

Many companies that have already gone smoke free over the past few years had put up smoking shelters so their staff could be fairly warm and dry when smoking outside.
Only problem is that on July 1st it will be illegal to smoke in the shelters
