Yep, as above. Hawk trainer.
As soon as the bird hits the aircraft, the instructor pulls the nose up to gain altitude. The cockpit alarm anounces 'T6, NL' which basically indicates that the engine's compressor has surged and is running down. Despite this, the instructor tries to relight the engine, but fails, and they both bail out.
Amazing that it's less than a minute from level flight to hitting the deck - you don't have much time to react in these planes!! Even so, in this time they have attempted to relight the engine and have managed to steer the aircraft towards empty space.

Not quite the full story but cloe enough.
Directorate of Flight Safety -- From the Investigator -- Hawk CT155202
Also both pilots would have significant experience, especially the instructor and even the student would no doubt have several hundred hours at least.

Umm.. I remember seeing that video ages ago.. could have sworn I read it was Valley at the time.. that's definitely the same one? Certainly sounds like it from the report.
Edit: Ah probably confusing it with this one.. http://www.mod.uk/NR/rdonlyres/FB83C...52_15feb02.pdf
Might have seen a video of that one kicking around somewhere...

saw a harrier pilot at Farnborough buzz the runway with his wheels down, he came in clipped the dirt at the side of the runway with his wheels and took off again, most amazing knowledge of the size of your vehicle if you ask me !!!!!
