No Claim Bonus
Hi All,
Im just about to buy a " weekend " Car and just assumed that my 3 years no claims bonus on my main car would also be used on any other car I purchased and wasnted to insure,
Is this not the case ? , just speaking to an insurance company the way they worded something was as though this would not be the case.
Can anybody enlighten me please
Thanks

Your no claims bonus can only be used on one vehicle. If you buy another vehicle, then you will start a new policy with 0 no claims bonus.
Used to be the case..... but since the invent of the wheel and the internal combustion engine, things have moved on

I have my my main motor (a mondeo) on a 15yr no claims policy.
I have a few old mercs on classic policies at between £54 and £132 per year. The £132 car is a 5000cc merc.
If your weekend car is old (normally 12yrs+), give Adrian Flux insurers a call. My 2.8 1981 merc is insured for £54 per year despite it good for 130mph. They work on agreed values.
They rate insurance risks on your car being a 2nd motor that's used far less.

Well they might say they will give you a discount on a second car but how would you know? Insurance companies don't give you a pre discounted price so you can't tell what discounts you get.
For example I phoned up an insurance company and got a quote. Saw an add on TV saying online = 10% off, so put all the details in, price was not 10% off, so I called them and got some spiel about the phone quote had a special offer of guess what 10% off, so no way of telling if you get a discount or not.
Also I got quotes on a second car, some offered to match my NCD but others did not, all quotes came back about the same though. As a 'new' customer you may attract different discounts but as an existing customer you get different discounts. 60% off is great, but not if the premium is 60% more in the first place.
Right, that's done ... time for work.
