Yes, it bewilders me as well. He writes one very average book that insults the whole Muslim faith and then spends the next Allah knows how many years hiding at our expense and gets a knighthood for it. Why?

as a muslim he was fully aware how much anger and resentment his book would cause, it completely insults all muslims, so we joe public pay for years of 24 hour police protection, so he can earn loads of money, gain lots of publicty and finally get knighted, who is the **** in all of this ?

Let's face it, it doesn't take much to provoke extremists to issue death threats.

In fact, I think we should all consider going into hiding for posting on this thread!!

I still laugh when I think about the comedian who questioned the validity of some of the death threats that were originally issued in response to the book, one of the more notable being a piece of graffiti scrawled on a wall saying:

"Rustie must Die!"

Anyone else think that somewhere in the country there is a King Charles Spaniel cowering in a corner thinking "All I did was pee up a lampost, I don't wanna die!"

He wrote a book in the late 80's that insulted Islam, and you cant insult Islam, criticize Islam or anything as there isnt much in the way of tolerance and the best answer they can vome up with, rather than a reasoned argument as to why it may be untrue is to kill you or if they cant get you to blow something up.

I find it best to keep quiet on such matters, i.e. religion, or insult a group whos isnt so touchy about its collective dellusion.
