Job searching rant
Right, first of all, my apologies for the rant but feel the need to vent my anger and frustration...
I've been looking for another, I currently work in a car dealership and have been there for 5 years, I'm now sick of the job, even though the salary is pretty good for the job I do, and infact the motortrade all together and want to try something different and new.
I've been applying to a fair few jobs, nothing 'out of my reach', I have been realistic with my searching but I am also confident in my own abilities and know what I can and can't do. There are alot of things I have done which I wouldn't mind doing as a job but because I don't have a list of qualifications relevant to what they are looking for theres no need in applying.
What happened to getting trained whilst in the job? Surely whatever company you go to work for you would have to trained in their methods and proceedures anyway!
Well after trauling through page after page of part time applications I decided to create an account on Monster and see what jobs would be thrown back at me, I was hoping it would be as successful for me as it has been for the people I have spoken to about it. After filling in their application and having to think up some stupid things that they ask for (what the hell is a CV Title?!) I upload my CV and check everything over to make sure I've not missed anything then press submit...and then...nothing! "Javascript error"
FFS all I want to do is find a new job and the sites only job is to do that ONE task and it can't even do that! I feel the only thing I'm reduced to is spending weekends looking at random company names and calling and asking for jobs!
Is anyone else feeling this way too?! I hate my current job and want to change, I know what I can do and know I can do any job I apply to very well!
I don't want to discuss my current salary in open forum but if anyone in Yorkshire currently looking for new staff members? PM me.

In all honesty, I've looked at doing alsorts, so long as its different from the motortrade I'm not fussed. Just getting sick of the same mundane routines all the time.
As far as money goes, I'm not been greedy, just enough to let me live comfortably and be able to save enough to get a house with my G/F but a job with promotion opportunities.

Have you thought about going self employed and starting your own business? The are probably a few things in your life you enjoy doing which if you think about it could become a new career path. Just skip property development in the current climate as it may not be the best move.

Already am registered as self employed due to planning to create my own company but my current employment put restrictions on what I could do, plus intentionally increasing my hours to reduce my chance of success.
I know what you mean with housing, its turning into a diluted market, everyone wants to get into it, the only upshot is you'll never lose money on property.

I'm a Parts Advisor but have good product knowledge, motoring general knowledge and I'm qualified to NVQ Level 2 on vehicle mechanics, not much but I can do most jobs on cars. Also do car valeting on the odd occasion for a bit of extra petrol money.

Dont take this the wrong way but being in the trade myself, all partsmen are lazy b*stards. IMHO of course.
Lets hope your NVQ will let you change brake pads on your mums cars for years to come.
Ps the job offer is still open.

Not sure about that one, buy the wrong property which needs more work than you expected then all your profits are gone and it may even cost you. There are so many wannabe developers out there that the properties worth doing up are being overpriced by the have a go developer. Also there seems to be the sellers mentality of "It's prime for development so I will charge more" as they feel they should get a slice of the profits for owning the property in the first place.

Best of luck finding something Rich, particularly using the job websites such as Monster.
My own experience of them is mixed, I found my current job on an ad placed by my current employer. But my predominant experience of these sites is the carpet bombing of ads done by recruitment consultants, who put the same job on again, again, and again (even from the same agency), plus put made up non-existant jobs on just to get your CV on their books. The trouble is them doing that makes it hard to find what you are looking for, and I if was an employer would put me off placing an ad on these sites as it can get lost amongst the spam of agency stuff.
Got to look at these sites myself this weekend , what with a half inflation rate salary increase on the books at work. Not looking forward to it

mr rich, im in the same boat as you.
im lucky in that i have the talents with regards my drawing/graphic illustration to go places, touch wood. but i finished college, didnt go to uni, got a job, and so forth, and 5 years later im stuck in a warehouse (ok good money for the job) on nights wasting my talents away. the only two things spoiling my chances of getting a well paid designers job
my mortgage as id struggle to move...
a list of letters and numbers after my name with regards qualifications.
im usually a very modest person, but i know i have the ability in this field to do well, its a case of people giving you a chance. in this town though, nothings that easy.

Try another job site
Hi Rich,
A good few years ago I tried Monster and didn't find the site user friendly or useful. By comparison why not try jobsite. Jobsite UK - 1000s UK Jobs, Start your Recruitment Job Search Now
I found the site easir to deal with.
If you need any assistance in setting up your profie give me a pm and we can talk it through over the phone.
Regards & good luck!!
