Default Whats Wakefield like??

Anyone live there/been there? Whats it like? Good to nightlife? Much to do?

Currently living in Leeds, but office will be moving to Wakefield within 6 months... options are to commute to Wakefield each day or move to Wakey which would mean short commute to work (so sports car time!) and cheaper living costs - but dont want to lose the decent nightlife that you get in Leeds (well Headingley to be exact!)

Anyone?

Well known for being a good night out. Wakefields a bit of a toilet though, although its travelling distance of the West Yorkshire Riviera!

Wakefield used to be a legenday night out, but a mix of too many pubs/clubs per drinker out and about means dwindling population on The Thu/Fri/Sat nights. Stick to Leeds mate.

I had the exact same choice to make....

You couldn't pay me to live in Wakefield! Leeds a is vibrant city with great nightlife and as you will know headingley is a great place to live this time of year. Hell Headingley in the Summer is fecking superb!

It can't compete with the major cities for choice, but it really depends on what you want. I live in Wakey and find it OK thanks. I'm not one for nightlife (which I hear is pretty good - they block the main road off from 6ish on the busy nights as it does get busy), but it's fairly small so the great park is easy to get to. There's the Waterpark and plenty of walking along the river... Cathedral etc...

Again, because it's fairly compact it has the usual gyms and other out of town retail centres..

Shopping is OK.. nothing special.

Right on the M1 & M62, which is useful. 15 mins to Leeds and 20 to Sheffield.. so not too bad placed. A1 is 15 mins away with Xscape 15 mins too.

Main train station....

5 minute drive in most directions and you're in some outstanding countryside with some outstanding roads. 20 mins and you're in to the Dales and the snake pass area etc..

You'll always find the toilet parts in all cities... but there's some great estates and some nice houses if you have the money...ther's plenty if you don't.

Plus the local Subaru club aint bad

For a night out it is meant to be the dogs bo**ox but Ive been out and found it sh*t! Good thing is because of the heavy police presence there is never any bother that would usually happen due to the neanderthal that would frequent pubs/clubs there!

I went out in Barnsley a few weeks ago expecting the same but found it to be a very good night out!

I'd live in Wakefield over Leeds any day. I live Wakefield, and work Leeds.

Lol, how can you put down Wakefield and then say Barnsley is brill?

I was out in Wakefield on Thursday night, the place was packed and we had a brill night out.
Wakefield during the day is pretty crappy really, I personally wouldn't want to live there, shopping is rubbish even compared to Huddersfield, but especially Leeds.
Wakefield for a night out is very cheesy, lot's of 80's bars etc, which is quite entertaining but would get boring week in week out.
I split my time between my house in Huddersfield and my Gf's in Leeds, I've had a few nights out in Headingly and would choose Headingly every time.
I think you will regret moving to Wakefield

I remember Rooftop Gardens and Casanovas. Two clubs that were linked together and you could get from one to the other for free. Had my 21st there on a Monday years ago - 10p/pint night. I kid you not!
