finnaly went to buy the TV i wanted
dammn typos on the thread title
and found it has been discontinued
moral of the story
dont spend fooken ages poncing about on the internet slaving over stats and reviews, just go to the bloody shop and buy one
nice man in comet claimed he could get me one, but even the warehouse had none left
walked into currys and bought an ex display 42" samsung plasma instead (last one they had, also discontinued
samsung ps-42c7hd
the website says this
the does this mean its a 1080i set or is it downscaling the picture to 720p ?
cracking picture from the xbox360 but cant see any difference between the 2 modes myself, it was next to a more expensive and small LCD samsung and the picture was better on the one i took home

Which is really what you are supposed to do with Plasmas. Some say as much as 200 hours running in time. (this is from AV Forums)
99% sure I'm ordering a Panasonic 42" early next week. Part of a major living room refit

i have had to turn the tv settings down a bit, the colours and brightness was a bit to much, do they get brighter after then get a few miles on the clock?

We started with the Sky+ box and it looked rather good straight out of the (very large) carton.
Then splashed the cash on SKY HD (special offer £149 + £60 fitting) and the picture quality on Sky SD improved quite dramatically over the Sky+ box and on HD broadcasts, it's just stunning. There is absolutely nothing negative you can say about it. EDIT ...and it's only 1080i. so don't necessarily believe all the 1080p hype
Don't have a DVD hooked up to it so can't comment on that.
Have an analogue aerial attached - PQ is adequate, but nothing to write home about - and its 4:3 of course.
I'm also convinced it's getting better and better as the hours start to mount up
The only minor thing is that unless you wind the contrast up, what is a fantastic picture with normal room lighting can seem a bit dull if the room is flooded with sunlight.
Highly recommended - in fact now considering a 37PX70 for the Study

From what I've read on AV forums, plasmas are supposed to have some sort of run in time before ramping up the controls - and I think its to lessen screen burn while playing games. (LCD is better for gaming really)
I believe some screen burn can be removed by leaving the set on "snow" or detuned for a couple of hours.
Others say though, that the Panny 70s screens are pretty much bullet proof.
Theres a huge thread on AV forums on them.
Sorry for the thread hijack Sticky.

I'm afraid someone's been pulling your plonker
The reason is that the glass, being such a big single piece and only supported on its edges, isn't strong enough to support its own weight during transportation if it's turned horizontal.
The next person along will be reminding us that plasma TVs have to be re-gassed every 10 years....
