Taking on a placement Student?
We're looking into taking on a placement student in our technical department but we're not keen on paying them
Has anybody got/had a placement student cuz I'll like to to know if you bothered paying them and how much
If we had to pay them what would be a minimum?

We had a placement student, 3 months maximum placement, he badgered the MD almost everyday for a permanent job
eventually the MD gave in and give him a job, on 14k, the said student then started moaning to everyone how little he was being paid, refused to carry out any instructions given to him
Went to Maccie D's instead of going to customers sites, talked about how bad things are at our place to another customer(who incidently used to work for us),got banned from 2 other customer sites, so he got sacked by telephone whilst on one of his days off sick
Because the MD didnt give him a job straight away (as his placement was upto 3 months) he took a major funny over this saying the MD was a tight **** tw@t who just didn't want to pay for staff
nice lad but thank **** he no longer works for us

My eldest lad is a trainee welder. When he lost his job for a second time, he managed to get another (which he NEEDS to complete his course..........more bullsh*t Labour non-funding), by going to places asking if they would employ him if he worked for free, until he had finished his training.
He got taken on by a company in the next town, and they summed it up for me when they said, "We'll take you on, but we're not taking the p*ss. If you come to us to work, you get paid". Only £5.50 an hour, but hey, it pays his travelling and his phone.

I did loads of placements when I was getting started. They all gave me something, depending what sort of place. Commercial law firms, being generally flush, paid £100-200 a week - this was ten years ago mind. I worked in small places and an advice centre too and they just gave me expenses - tenner a day if that.
So I guess it depends how keen they are and how competitive the industry is.

Thanks for the info guys.
I've contacted Aston and Coventry Uni and see what we can work out.
I will need to talk to management about it and see what we can do.
they would want free but I do think NMW should be the minimum.
BTW I'm not joking about a hot 20-25 year old student female
