Reports on bbc say that it is not as bad as first thought. The decks are not salvageable but the rest could be restored. There is a lot of restoration support woodwork that has been burnt that makes it look worse.

Unhappy

Listening to R5 live this morning

around 50% of the deck/internal fittings are away at a different location being restored as is the mast. so at least some of the ship is OK.

Damn shame

I live 2 mins away and was only stood next to it last night.

what with that and the talk about getting rid of the market to build flats, there will be nothing left in Greenwich the way things are going.

They say it can be restored but what a terrible thing to happen. An irreplaceable bit of our history all but destroyed. If it was deliberate the bloke who did it should be made to walk the plank!

I agree I do hope it can be restored. Though given other projects that they say we won't fund like the restoration of like Donald Campbells Bluebird brought up from Lake Conniston a few years back I wouldn't count on it.

On a lighter note I belive the police have 2 suspects in mind

Damned shame... just hope some ar$e hasn't got it in his head that this seems like a good idea and tries it with something like HMS Victory, that'd be an even bigger shame!

Anyway, seems it's repairable just that the restoration is going to take much longer and cost a great deal more. I wonder if insurance would cover this kind of thing.
