Default WTF!? GMTV and Shelters latest report..

Due to Shelters latest report saying that a million children live in sub-standard accomodation, GMTV did a bleeding heart item this morning. A family of eight in Hackney, living in a two bedroom flat that they had lived in for the last 12 years - oldest child 15, youngest child looked about 9 months. They complained that they believed Hackney council would have moved them into a larger house by now.

Can someone obviously far more liberal than me please explain why that situation is no-ones faults other than the supposed parents who are either utterly irresponsible or so stupid they can't grasp the concept of birth control?

I have no idea and wouldn't like to speculate.

Although I stand by one of my main policies if I ever got into politics that any family having more than three successful pregnancies would waiver the right to any child support. Logic being is that if you can afford to bring up that many children you can afford to do without child support.

I watched a bit of GMTV this morning, and was amazed by the crap that they "reported".

Some Bliar's Babe hand puppet was bragging on how Nu Labour had gotten a million kid out of child poverty (thus they now have central heating and PS3s and plasma TVs) - even though the presenter said that there were actually 50,00 more in poverty!!!

Anyway, she commented on how the existing policy (i.e. to give away free accommodation, heating, no council tax etc.) to baby-factory slappas was failing, because the homes were typically 2 bedroom affairs. I mean, how is that going to help someone with 6 kids

Well my dear, soon to be sacked by Brooon, government spokes-piece - if you give them bigger houses - they will simple breed more

...but this was from a channel that stated "as fact" that Climate Change was the cause of asthma

Well I wish the housing minister had turned around and said - "actually, this is not the governments fault- how can we be held responsible for a member of the public failing to plan their family. They put themselves in the situation, they can get themselves out of it"

That might have actually made me have some respect for Labour at last.. but alas.. not to be.

I shouted at the telly this morning, it bugged me so much. I was in a bad mood however as I was woken up early by my daughter.

Still, I have one child and a 4-bedroomed house. I should count myself lucky!

May sound ****ty, but I don't think child allowance etc etc should be a normal benefit.

I really do not think we should encourage dirty ******* to have kids..... if you are a dirty, lazy pikey then do the world a favour and dont have kids

Missed it, then agian i do not watch GMTV as it is poorly presented and produced and feels dumbed down, sort of like The Sun but on TV.

I find it hard to understand the mentality of the sort of people that assume they are entitled to have kids and as many as they want and that other peoole will pick up the tab.

However, there are many of these people around, that expect life and everything to be handed to them on a plate. NL has done little to redress theis except to move and masage the figures ans a few well meaning soundbites...

GMTV is sensationalist, band wagon jumping, heart string tugging TV for the soap opera generation and like much of the British media should be given a wide berth as they would try and tell you the sky is green if they thought it would get them some more viewers.

As for the poor family of 8 living in a 2 bedroom flat well tough luck. If you want kids then you should be able to afford them and if you can't well sorry but life ain't fair is it. I would abolish child benefit overnight if I got to power, people who think it is their right to pro-create and then have the taxpayer pick up the tab need convincing otherwise IMHO.
