Television celebrity Jade Goody told a court how a "rough looking geezer bird" attacked a 22-year-old boy band singer with a bottle in a nightclub.

Big Brother contender Miss Goody denied suggestions at St Albans Crown Court she was lying to get publicity.

Jerome Simeon, of Sheffield, suffered a serious neck injury at Sky nightclub in Ware, Hertfordshire, in February 2006.

Hairdresser Zoe Sigorney, 28, of Peterborough, Cambs, denies wounding him with intent to cause GBH.

Mr Simeon, who sings with a band in Germany, suffered a 6 inch (15cm) wound to the neck.

Miss Goody, 25, a mother of two of Chipping Ongar, Essex, was at the nightclub with friends and had been dancing with Mr Simeon, whom she had just met, describing him as a "good looking fella" but she felt a "tension" in the air.

"It looked like Jerome has bumped into someone. Jerome was saying sorry or something," said Miss Goody.

"Then in a matter of seconds I heard this girl with something in her hand. She just lunged on to Jerome. I had been hit with a piece of glass from the bottle."

"I could see this girl just hitting. She was quite rough looking, I thought she was a bit of a geezer."

Spotted at court

Miss Goody then explained what she meant by the word "geezer".
"There is always a stereotype of Essex girl," explained Miss Goody. "She didn't look like she came from around that area.

"I just remember seeing this big yellow hair and the way she acted and that was my impression - geezer-bird."

Bill Emlyn Jones, for Miss Sigorney, suggested Miss Goody was lying and had come to court to gain publicity.

Miss Goody said that had she intended to court publicity she would have contacted journalists and attempted to sell a story.

But she said news of the incident did not emerge until Monday after journalists spotted her in the court building. The case continues.
