Ashes to Ashes - What car
#2
Rover SD1 is a good choice, but has to be the V8
if you want iconic 80,s car, there's only one and thats what you all should pay homage too
Audi quatro

Agree, SD1 would have to be a V8, the pic is a V8 vitesse
Not sure about the quattro, how is flash knickers going to jump in the back easily, and for the same reason we discounted the XR's it never was a cop car back then. Iconic car true, one for Gene Hunt, not sure

Capri 2.8 injection (3.0 S as a nod to Bodie and Doyle ?) or a Granada Ghia X, might be a little to obvious though. The Sierra was new back then, perhaps an XR4i ?
Theres always the Senator, perhaps an Opel Monza or theres always stuff like early 80's Beemers, saloon Audi's were too lame back then and I doubt coppers could have ended up with a Merc.
Possibly a Jag Xj or even a snotty early XJS, could see Hunt in one of those.
Course he may have been demoted/ended up in uniform and be in a Metro/Maestro Panda car or an unmarked MK2 Cavalier 1.8 GLi with no wheel discs. Perhaps for a Laugh a Princess or Ambassador (Y reg)
I also wouldnt rule out something American for his personal transport, he looks like he could be a bit flash so how about a Trans-Am or a Cadillac, could detract a little though.
Who says the Cortina won't still be around, looking a bit knackered ?
I agree that the SD1 is the best choice, I see him more as a Vanden-Plas 3500 than a Vitesse man though.

Apparently the "star car" will be an Audi Quattro. So no sideways squealing around in the new series then.
Don't really agree with that. Too rare, exclusive, classy. This would be way better.
Imagine Gene Hunt cruising around with elbow on window.

I had pretty much discounted the XR series, capri's mantas etc because they only have 2-doors, you won't get the whole team bundling in like they did the cortina. Must admit I had overlooked the senator/cartlon option. Imagine him in a carlton GSi3000

Quattro doesnt really fit, but then I havent seen the programme yet, they were very expensive sub-supercar territory back then, out of the reach of a DCI, I cant imagine he has been promoted to Superintendant or Deputy Superintendant.

They are iconic as in that is what we remembered as cars of the 80's, icons don't have to be good, just memorable. I remember the XR series and the Mk2 cavalier SRi and SRi130 as cars of the day. In the same vein you could add the montego turbo, but it wasn't that memorable.
Yeah ? I remember my black Caavlier with LXi alloys - sexy ! Oh, and i also remember my bright yellow Chevette 1.3L, 56bhp, with 12 inch Garfield the cat sticker grinning on the door ( ). Does that count too ?

BBC - Press Office - Ashes To Ashes
The blurb also mentions the girl who goes back this time knows of Gene Hunt and the gang.
"Having read reports from Sam Tyler" - now does that mean he did wake up?
