Default plasma wall brackets ??

Anyone know much about wall brackets for plasma tv`s ?? quoted £200 in comet but see that the same type off brackets are available on ebay at £30 plus.

is it worth relying on a £30 bracket to hold up a grands worth off tv ??!!
just after the type that fixes set to wall in a set posistion. ie non swivel / tilt or whatever it is the others do ??!!

tv is a 42" one, any particular ebay sellers recommended if this much cheaper option is viable enough ??

cheers

Have a llok at the AVF Nexus range, they are quality brackets @ decent prices.

The type of wall's got nothing to do with the bracket just the type of fixings your gonna have to use. Get some decent cavity anchors and you'll be fine

Plasterboard will be fine, just make sure you hit a joist and then spread the load with a few toggle fixings. They arent that heavy really.

I have been using AVRabbit.com with success recently. They are relatively cheap, local to me (although I have used mail order too) and are a proper shop.

Worth a look I reckon.

Wall joists not common anymore as they commonly use metal framework.

I used one of these (not from this buyer, but all the same) from ebay....hasn't let me down at all, and I have a big heavy ***** of a 42"

eBay.co.uk: PLASMA & LCD TV WALL MOUNT BRACKET TILT 32" 37" 40" 46" (item 170099529975 end time 12-Apr-07 15:17:22 BST)

I however used coachbolts into a thermalite (insulating) block wall...maybe overkill, but I'd rather it didn't fall, breaking the telly, and no doubt everything that is stored below it!

Another vote for AV Rabbit

Plasterboard is fine as long as you use the right raw plugs and enough of them. Generally if it's a big TV (32" or more) then you want it flat on the wall - if you put it on an arm, there's too much leverage for plasterboard.

This kind of thing with a load of RediDriver plugs will be fine.

Okay yep going straight on wall as opposed to swivel / tilt etc, not 100% sure whats behind the platerboard as I belive it can be off a few things such as joists, metal framework or dabs ( ie dab off concrte from wall to actual platerboard.

okay in all circumstances am I better trying to go for direct fixings into the actaul brick wall as opposed to into just the joists etc ?? the plasma is a 42" one so yep it is a biggie !!!

any particular wall fixings recommended for the above fixing and how many or is it more the better ??!!

lastly - any advice regards cutting off the plasterboard etc for the fitting off all the cables etc ?? any suggestions etc would be great.

cheers

What I'd do is figure out where you want the TV & mark it out on the wall. mark where the cables will leave the TV and cut a hole in the plasterboard using a saw, cut another hole where you want the cables to come out the other end (usually floor level directly below), cut that hole square for a back box then get some cable rods to feed the cable. What you put on the front of the back box depends on how neat a job you're doing Either a fused spur or flex outlet - a fuesd spur will beed wiring directly into another socket, the flex outlet is a hole to feed the cable through - you'd need to chop the plug off the cable & wiire in a new one though.

Once you have your hole behind the TV, you can use that to figure out the wall construction & select your fixings accordingly. I've got a 32" entirely on plasterboard using about 20 RediDriver plugs - basically the more the better (provided they're not too close together) so that they spread the load. If you know where the joists are then go directly into them and is the plasterboard is dabbed onto a solid wall, then drill deeper & use solid wall plugs.

My big TV's use anchor bolts into brick walls, but the 32" in the bedroom had to go onto plasterboard - using the mount & drivers in my previous post, it was strong enough for me to hang from it....

I'm in the middle of fitting my 42" plasma to the wall. my house is about 12 years old so its plasterboard with what looks like breshblock(sp) behind. i'm just waiting for the plaster to dry where i channeled the cabling. i used this guide for my install.
Bix's Plasma Install
i got one of these brackets, very solid and made of steal rather than aluminium. eBay.co.uk: 23" 26" 27" 32" 36" PLASMA LCD TV TILTING WALL BRACKET (item 120107963258 end time 14-Apr-07 20:45:00 BST)

Thanks so much for the excellent info mate thats great exactly the info I was looking for !!!

thanks also for your link to the ebaye seller certainly very well priced brackets as you say they are made out off steel as opposed to cheap aluminium.

anyway again thanks so much will keep you updated with my own set up progress and would certainly appreciatte hearing from anyone else with any other info regards installing wall mounted plasma.

sorry forgott to mention that I am almost 100% sure now that it is indeed dabs that hold the plasterboard in place, the wall holding the set is an outside wall will this probably mean that these dabs are all there is between the plasterboard and the actual outside wall ?? its just that it is going to be some length off a bolt to go from bracket to wall brick.
