Whats the bravest act ever filmed?
Not real life, but on film. Its always possible to stretch the boundaries when its scripted, but every now and again you see something that makes you go
"wow!"
For me, I think 2001 is the best example and I'd like to quote from another website if I may as I think it sums it up best.

Consider the situation of Dave Bowman. He's stuck in a crippled ship 500 million miles from home. His colleagues are dead. The ship's computer is incapacitated. Contact with Earth is all but cut off. He is the most isolated man of all time. Yet what does he do? He abandons the one refuge available to him, his ship, gets into a tiny pod, and goes out to face a mystery completely beyond his comprehension.
Way to go, Dave.

One of my top all time films astraboy and I'd have to agree with you on that one, can't think of anything else.
Although how about the dude who went out to look at the monolith in 2010?

Where Clint Eastwood rides into the Camanchie Camp alone .....
The Warrior Chief rides to face him with his warriors around him .....
Chief says to Eastwood, "You may go in Peace"
Eastwood, "Reckon not"
Chief, "Then you shall die"
Eastwood, "I came here to die with you" ....... "or live with you - dying ain't hard for men like us, it's living thats hard"
The Outlaw Josey Wales .......... bravest thing ever filmed - I would have been cacking myself!!

Jake and Elwood sitting in the 'clapped out ' Ex-police car, with sunglasses on a tank of fuel and a pack of ciggies ( or something along those lines) knowing full well that IF they didnt succeed, the *penguin* would find them and deal with them..

Saffron Burrows character in Deep Blue Sea feeding herself to a shark as a distraction to enable another character to prevent the shark escaping.
Makes the above seem jessie in comparison. All IMHO.

I can think of two
Butch and Sundance at the end in the courtyard in Bolivia with the Bolivian army and the posse all waiting outside. They run out knowing they are gonna get wasted (the actuality of it was that one of them shot the other and then shot himself, not quite so romantic eh?)
And Bruce Willis's character at the end of Armageddon. The film is a bit cheesy and i cant help but think Willis is just laughing all the way through, which makes some of the more sentimental moments a bit 'tongue in cheek' but i think it was pretty brave thing to do.

Jaws 2 (or 3,4 maybe 5)
The scene where all the 'crazy kids' are out sailing and their boats get attacked by the great white..... one of the young kids gets knocked overboard and a teenage girl jumps in and rescues him and is eaten for her troubles!

What about that Rocky guy - getting in the ring with the champion of the world, who'd not only helped Hans Solo but taken on the Predator too...
Sooo much bravery.
What about Harry Potter? He's only a kid

here's an overlooked one that's hard to beat for a majestic, heart-in-your-mouth moment...
the deer hunter. russian roulette scene in the VC hut. robert de niro and christopher walken play the odds to escape by playing each other with ever-increasing numbers of bullets in the chamber.
absolutely peerless stuff ...

How about the two snipers in 'Black Hawk Down', who land to save the crew of one of the downed helicopters knowing that they have no chance at all...all they can do is hold back the hoards of Somalians for a short time.

In second place is The Lion King, when the cubs go walkabout and the coyotes (one of which sounded suspiciously like Whoooooopi Goldberg) taunted them for several minutes in an agressive manner.
But by far the bravest act was the poor chap who was crucified by mistake at the end of Life Of Brian... He just accepted his fate, sang a happy song and then died to death .
