My mum and aunt want to go to New york at the end of November, but have been getting quoted nearly 1k each for flights and 3 nights.

I will do the usual trawl though internet sites, but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations of where to try.

Try booking direct with the airlines. Also book direct with the hotels, as all you then need is to get cab rides to and from airport.

Cheap half decent hotels are SAS Radisson & Metropolitan

I went last November, booked through Expedia.co.uk and paid just over £620 each for flights plus four nights in a very nice hotel (flew with BA and stayed in Westin Times Square). I had to spend a bit of time on Expedia playing around with different dates - just a few days either side and the price shot up a few hundred.
One thing to beware of with cheap deals is who the airline is and what time the flights are, some have you flying out very late from the UK and then leaving NY very early so in effect you 'lose' two days of your stay.

Also the last Thursday in November is Thanksgiving so they may want to avoid going then as the airports will be packed (although they would get to see the parades etc).

After New Year is always a "dead" time for airlines. If they can go mid to late Jan, they could save loads.

I know it goes against every british muppet instinct to book super early but dont.

ALL the airlines will have sales post summer covering the late oct/nov period and they all match basically to within $1 of each other as it is such a competitive route.
Wouldnt recommend going in the last week of nov unless you get a good deal on a hotel- you will pay a fortune for what is already an overpriced crap hotel as it is thanksgiving and super super busy. Flights wont be as affected by thanksgiving.
Jan and feb are super cheap times to go if they can wait.

Hotels are insanely expensive and you do not get what you pay for. Period.

Get an early morning flight out from uk and a later one back to maximise your time (like my regular flight numbers on the left <--- )

There are deals to/from NYC almost weekly now with every airline.
For example, if I wanted an economy rtn LHR/JFK outbound between 10APR07-10MAY07 i can book it now for £239 on ba.com inc tax.....

I went last thanksgiving, Monday return Friday. Stayed at Westin booked through expedia, flew with Air India (easily cheapest - and a damn good curry too!).
The thanksgiving day was very busy but the airports were certainly ok when we flew. Was a fab week.
