Unhappy HELP!! - Any Gasmen about?

Came back from holiday and walked into the house - strong smell of burning clutch/burning motor.

Put it down to the drains as I had put strong cleaner down them when we left for 5 days away.

Today, we had the washing machine on, the dishwasher on .... no smell (I had flushed the drains thoroughly).

Boiler came on to heat water - few minutes later, bad smell like clutch burning.

Convinced it is the Boiler I have rung British Gas .... who have now sent the National Grid out to shut us all off!!! I explained that it is NOT a gas smell, but they wouldn't listen

Anyone any idea what would make this kind of smell from a Boiler?

Do you know what BG did while I was on the phone?? Tried to sodding well UPGRADE my cover!!! They NEVER miss a chance do they?? "Why have you not upgraded your cover Mr Lewis?" like I should have done!!

"Just get an Engineer out here on my exsisting cover please!"

"Can't send an Engineer out until the National Grid have cut you off"

Bloody Great!!

could be your pump or a leaking heat exchanger, burning central heating inhibitor as a strong smell could be dripping on to burner, if boiler is roomsealed i'd be checking the case seal if thats the case .

Well, TRANSCO came and looked for a leak - no leak, as I had told BG!!

The Boiler was working when the TRANSCO bloke was here, he could smell it and he could hear a FIZZING noise, like wires arcing ...... while he was here the Boiler just stopped working

So, thats it .... somethings burnt out - can just see the BG Engineer trying to sell me a new Boiler as "The Parts Are Hard To Come By" .... I know they are under pressure from Head Office to sell new boilers, but I hope he fixes it.

lol british ripoff gas.

when you hire someone to replace your boiler make clear to them that if they havent done it to the best of their ability you wont pay. Oh and remember, you get what you pay for, dont go for the cheapest guys.

Me mate Jamal and dodgy Dave can do you one for £40, and for another £50 they can connect you to the next door neighbours supply eliminating those nasty bills

If your interested pm me and Ill give you their number as soon as they are out of the serious burns unit

Sounds like a faulty motor on the blower, thats about the only moving part apart from the gas valve presuming your water pump is elswhere in the system.
