Going to Longleat - what else is there to do in the area?
Decided to go for 3 days down to Longleat area. Need some ideas for things to do for day 1 and 3 as day 2 will be spent at the safari park/grounds. Need to be things that are suitable for 2 boys as well (aged 9 and 2) so any other animal related stuff will be good.
Was thinking of going further West to the Monkey Sanctuary or even right down to the tip of Cornwall to the Seal Sanctuary as I loved both these places as a kid but would mean staying in different over night stops. What other good attractions are there in the West Country? Any good steam trains, sure I went on one as a kid but can't remember where it was in the South West
TIA for any good suggestions

That doesn't bother me to be honest, taken cars through there before and its worth the risk although never had any damage done by the monkeys so must have been lucky. Will remove the aerial before I go in as that will be the first thing to get snapped.

You can drive up to Bristol Zoo if you don't wanna go far, otherwise there is Cheddar Gorge and it's caves which is cool for kids (maybe 2 is on the edge) or Wookey Hole (more caves and other themepark stuff these days)
There is the Sealife centre at Weymouth if you wanna drive south also.

Cheers, went to Wookey Hole/Cheddar Gorge on a school trip when I was 8 Think little'un will scream his head off in a cave as he is right in the middle of the terrible 2's at the moment and when he doesn't like doing something he really lets you know about it! Will look at the Sealife Centre at Weymouth as my youngest is mad of fishes but recently went to Bournemouth Sea Life Centre which was very good so depends if its as good or not. Will check the website, thanks.

Took my son (aged 6 at the time) to Monkeyworld and he loved it. Good day out in my opinion. Longleat also good, and a good day, but make sure you get in the queue for the boat ride thing where you feed the seals early, cos it can take ages. Also worth going to stonehenge, and the obvious cornwall attractions already mentioned if you dont mind a long drive.
If you want a nice place to go for a meal too, try the Wheatsheaf Inn, which is in a place called The Woodfordes, not far from stonhenge. Make sure you order The Tanglefoot pie, which is superb.
As others have also said Bournemouth is worth a trip, also Salisbury Cathedral not far away. Nice part of the world, and make sure you also have some Badger beer too!

we did Monkey world this time last year and was v. dissappointed. It was so busy you couldn't really get close enough to see any moneys.
You can bypass the monkey section at Longleat if you want to save your wipers / gutter covers. Might go back there next week, missed pets corner last time.
Sea life centre is pretty good, can't remember how it compares to Bournemouth though.

Monkey world is great, there is a steam train between Corfe and Swanage but thats perhaps a bit far from Longleat... Maybe just under an hour or so.
I live in Bournemouth and its nice but not worth a trip from Longleat!
Beach is good, now that it has been widened.
