Question DIY: Plaster cast on arm

How do you do one on yourself and what would I need?

It needs to be in 2 layers - top layer as normal with a intermediary layer with a message on it (or on a piece of paper lodged inside it) and the bottom layer with a ring in it

Will it take long? Want to do it Friday morning and will only have an hour or two max!

cheers

Do you know anyone who works in a hospital, or maybe you could get some at a big chemists shop? as follows: Its more usual to use a sort of fibreglass bandage thats set off by making it wet, ie you wet the bandage then wrap the limb. You'll need a pair of tin snips to get it off.

So much for your 'mate' wanting proposal ideas.

Well that's sort of the impression I was getting. I think you'd be better to tie the ring to an a55hair and get her to rim you that way she gets two rings for the price of one and you benefit from a moist tongue up your pooper.

...
..........

hmmmm

....god, I'm bored today

You should do radio 2's Pause for Thought.

Very moving, and insightful words

Littmann Stethoscopes, Welch Allyn, Omron - Medical and Nursing UK

Try here. I use it to make hills for slot car tracks and railway layouts. Same stuff that goes on your broke bits

Lol -had to say a mate as didn't want any of my mates on here thinking it was me but as they know now then it's all good !!

Well spent the day getting it all sorted - fouind some plaster wire thing at an art shop which is prep'd with plaster. You just wet it and wrap it, takes about 30 mins to set.

Going to a nice hotel tomorrow but going to text her tonight in the early morning to say I've fractured my arm so she's not shocked when I pick her up.

Basically going to drive down and when I get to the hotel take a phone call from the doctor/hospital to say they've reexamined the x-rays (a bit suss I know so any other ideas?? ) and I can cut the cast off.

I'll get her to cut the cast off to reveal a support sock with the words 'marry me?' and under that is a band-aid plaster under which is the shiny ring

Hopefully it'll all go to plan !!!

LOL, I've got to credit you for imagination but I'll be surprised if she swallows that! Dr., "er, we've made a mistake your arms fine, just cut that nasty plaster off whenever you get the chance son!"

I_S_N, I do think you are nuts I don't think she's going to fall for it but if she loves you I'm sure she'll adore you for the effort, etc.

All I ask is that you tell us honestly what happens! If she laughs in your face and calls you a dork before accepting you have to tell us

Well - I can safely say that after mixing enough plaster of paris/industrial cements , that in smaller quantities it is fine, but as said in the article, if you mix it in bulk , as it starts to set it gives off an exothermic reaction and quite a lot of heat can be generated. So NEVER shove your hand in a bucket of setting plaster. If you are going to mould something, use alginate or silicone.

I_S_N - I'd suggest using plaster bandages- probably a couple of layers would be fine... you arm will heat up a bit - but not to a huge extent. Any exposed skin that will be covered in plaster, cover with Vaseline.

Anyway - probably too late for you to read this now anyway :/

A friend of mine did his own foot once just to get out of a sticky situation with a 'heavy' he owed money to ie hoping he wouldn't get a slap about due to being injured. It did work, but he walked around for a week first with it on until he met the guy. Words were exchanged and the money, the guy actually said "I'd have given you a pasting if it wasn't for that pot on your leg"

Pulled it off like a dream - even had myself believing I had a fracture for a bit

She didnt have a clue when I asked her to cut off the cast.

I even got a tear and of course - "Yes", she'll have me !!

So I'm finally engaged!!!

Saxo Boy: She did laugh and call me a t1t but it was all worth it, especially as getting a tear from her is quite a rare exception!

Looking for civil wedding venues now, preferably around the West Midlands where we can hire our own caterers - somewhere like a stately home/hotel etc for a Winter Wedding
