Default Xbox 360 pricing

I'm thinking of jumping on the next gen consol bandwagen with an xbox and I'm wondering what the best deals are just now. Is the price of them likely to come down in the next few weeks/months for whatever reason? Should I wait a little longer or get stuck in?

I'm expecting a newer version to come out with the high definition dvd player built in, either that or for the price to drop.

Have a look at DVD and Gaming news, reviews and articles at AVPlay.com as there are some real bargains to be had, seems a few need/want a PS3 for a strange reason.

Managed to pick up a Xmas machine with 7 games plus HD DVD for around £360

Not really interesting in the fancier version as the key advantage seems to be HD-DVD and I'd rather wait to see which medium wins that battle and purchase an independant player. Of course the concern is that Microsoft release the beefier xbox in the UK next month for say £325 and slash £75-100 off the price of a normal xbox premium!?

The new XBox 360 "Elite" will not have a HD DVD drive so the only advantages are the bigger hard drive and HDMI port. If neither of these are of great concern to you I'd just go for the Premium available now.

Price wise i hear Makro are doing them pretty cheap. Failing that Costco also has them cheaper than RRP. If you want a few games with it, I'd try the bundles that Game and Gamestation usually churn out.

If you're after a second hand one, I have a friend who currently selling his. If you're interested drop me a PM.

I've ran out of HDMI ports on my amp so I'm guessing I'd be best to get a standard set up with HD component input. I'd only use the hard drive to save games - if I want to download pics, movies, whatever I'd use my PC. I think I'd prefer to buy new to get a warranty unless there is an exception 2nd hand deal.

No RB5Scott, but In early December I bought a Panasonic 42" PH9 for around £1500 including an HDMI board. That same panel has dropped and dropped since then and can now be had for around £1000 with the 50" model now being cheaper than what I paid for the 42".

It was nice to have the TV over xmas but I could have waited as I ended up taking it back off the wall and boxing it up for over a month whilst we built the surround for it. It's second hand value must be around half what I paid 3 months ago. That's a costly mistake and the reason for it is that I didn't appreciate there was about to be a fairly rapid reduction in plasma's across the market and that a new range of Panasonics were due early 2007.

I think it's in my own interests to make sure I learn from that mistake. I don't want to buy an xbox premium + game package for £299 only to find it's selling at £199 a month from now.

Kenny

Just been up town and noticed that (think it's Game) on the corner of South Charlotte Street/Princes Street, West end one....I honestly can't remember the price but I do recall raising an eyebrow at how low the xbox prices were...

Might be worth checking out

Cheers

I believe the elite will be out in a couple months, price will ive heard be the same as the current premium model £279, once the elite (black) models are sole, it will revert to a white case but be the elite spec...

this means the core & the premium will drop like a stone.. who wants a current premium when you can have an elite for the same money ...

given all i want to do is play games, its prolly the option i will go down...

funny we all moan about MS and there bloatwear, now we have a console trying to be a computer... why? if it was £100 cheaper, then yes possibly, at the moment its a non starter

I did the same with my Pioneer 436, but if you want todays technology today you have to pay the premium only for it to drop. If you kept waiting for the price drops you will never buy anything. That seems to be the way with TV's nowadays, The newest models only have a shelf life of 12 months maximum until the next model comes out.

I don't think the same can be said for games consoles though

Good deal this. Can sell the games if you don't want them bringing the cost of the console down.
