Default Issue with rental

We managed to get a short term let on a 3 bed property whilst our new house is being built. The agent wanted a deposit month+£200 to cover any costs of cleaning the property when we left.(How ironic!)

Anyhow the place is a **** tip. I've stayed in worse places as a student but this is pretty bad. The wife had to clean the cooker before we could use it, the dyson picked up 2 cylinders full of sh1te on the small pieces of carpet. Also the CH wasn't working for 2 days until the agent got a plumber round.

Now it seems that there must have been pets here, my youngest has had a pretty severe reaction to the point where she is now on

Piriton 4 times a day
Some other pink stuff once a day
Eye drops 3 times a day
Cream on the affected areas, and another cream to be applied 20 mins after

Obviously I'm pretty pissed off, but what can I do?

Did you not view the property before signing up?

Yes I did. The place was empty and seemed ok. The downstairs is laminate, the upstairs is carpeted, surfaces were clean, ok i didnt inspect the oven/grill but the fridge/freezer was clean.

I'd get onto the rental agents and ask them to re-inspect with a view to have the house cleaned properly.

Are they members of the NAEA or ARLA?

You may be able to take it up with the NAEA but your best bet is to ring the letting agent and explain the problems you've had.

Ring, or put in writing with photo/doctor evidence?

Is the agent the place across the road by the Monk? If so, they don't appear to be particularly good at sorting anything out.

My rented house (from them) was generally ok, other than a few problems with the shower and central heating seeming to have a mind of their own sometimes. The cooker was full of grease when I moved in, like someone had grilled a load of sausages before they moved out, but the rest of the place was spotless.

When I move out I'll leave it spotless, with maybe some sausage grease in the grill - or a freshly baked loaf, just as a parting gift.

Yes Iwan same agent as me. Same issue with the cooker as well!! We have a Bissell cleaner but the missus reckons the carpets will fall apart if we use that!!

We are only here for 10 weeks so not sure what to do, if I kick off what do I get, someone in to hoover the place, we can do that. I can't really entertain finding another rental because I'll not get one for < 6 months.

if you have paid them already they probably wont do anything .

you should have inspected it properly before parting with any cash .

also you shouldnt have done there cleaning for them . should have left it in the state you found it
