We've got one in the games room at work... It's not all it's cracked up to be imo, certainly not worth remortgaging your house for either. Far too expensive for what it is..

I'd advise buying an xbox 360, the graphics are the same and it's about a quater of the price.

Yup, mine arrived from Play.com a few days a go, package deal, 3 games, HDMi lead and a blu-ray DVD £524 to my door.

Motorstorm is fantastic, the Gran turismo download graphics are .

Being as I have been playing pc games for quite a few years, getting back into the FPS type games (Resistance Fall of man)on the PS3 is really hard work on the controller and I used to be so good with Golden eye.

As for Blu-ray, that's been the biggest let down, it doesn't look much different than my upscaling £500 denon normal DVD player.
even worse is that was really the only thing I bought it for.

"Click" (Adam Sandler) came as part of the package deal with the unit..

Lent it to my boss and he said the same, so thinks it might be the actual DVD.
Told me to download the "Casino Royale" trailer to show it's potential..
Will try that tonight.

Sorry I'm confused. How is downloading a trailer and playing it from the Hard Disk show how good the Blu-Ray capabilities are? I've been watching HD movies on my PC for months and that hasn't even got an HD/BR player.

Or are you just asking about the potential of an HD source played on your screen?

Mission Impossible 3 is a good mastering either on HD or BR - might be worth renting that to see the quality of the BR player in your PS3. Otherwise just plug your PC into your screen and watch one of the available HD trailers out there for free.

Cool

I have one & currently playing Ridge Racer 7/Motorstorm.

Looks fantastic on my 43in pioneer plasma. Only downside is that there aren't that many decent games out yet but it won't be long.

Prefer to spend my money on my gaming PC.

When the new breed of PC games roll in next christmas they'll take all the current consoles to the cleaners

Plus I can't play FPS games for toffee on a console.

LOL

Mouse and keys movement wins over wobbly stick and buttons everytime. Plus the other games I play are RTS which never work on console.

Only thing I'd buy a console for is for driving games. All but 2 of my PS2 games are driving. Modded my PS2 so I could play import driving games Initial D etc.

Or will it?

Ive just played F1 whatever in the local tv emporium. All nice and spangly, hooked up to a Sony LCD tv..

What a dissapointment...

I picked up the joypad, and nearly threw it over my shoulder, its like an empty shell, it dosent convey any feeling of solididity or robustness, on closer inspection it looks thin, or is this a marketing ploy on sonys behalf?. A semi translucent finish??

The game...

oh dear... quick race.. absolute joke... even with my hamstrung fingers i can have a good go... where was the physiscs... the damage ? the cutting edge graphics that have been much vaunted...

and the worst thing of all

NO RUMBLE PACK!!!!!!

It was like playing on an old Amiga, all eyecandy and no substance FFS

if i,m going over a rumble strip i want to feel rumble, how can you get involved / immersed if theres no feedback either visual or tactile?

Why cant they put Resistance fall of man on, so we can see what thats like. motorstorm & F1 arnt doing anything for me.

Next gen games being the best? i,m not to sure..

given that the consoles are so close, and if as the pundits say, the PS3 is superior, it presents an even bigger problem..

How many SW houses are going to code exclusivly for the machine? , or how many are going to code an 360 & a PS3 version?

given that the PS3 can do all the 360 can do, developers will code for the lower capability machine, and then port the game accross..

its amost like the old amiga's with the fatter agnus, /AGA chipset. you used to see enhanced versions of a game that took advantage of the uprated chipset. unfortunatly they never took off, as the lower specced machine was far more prevalant.

I understand sonys concept of the living room media station, but looking at the associated press reviews today, it is going to be hard..

The Home area needs a 500mb download, so that ties your net connection up straight away.. what happens if the DL fails? does it start again? will it brick the system? what happens if you have other users on your network sharing bandwidth.. on an average 2mb connection, that will take some time..

Ok you can dowload pictures to it via bluetooth or wireless.. but as far as i know theres no PS pro or other manipulation SW available to do your editing, and you can just as quickly wireless to your pc or cable to your pc to do all your editing...

What happens when you fill your 60gb drive? how can you transfer all your stuff to a bigger drive? or do you have to tie up your network pulling everything accross, and then copying it back?

I like the look of blueray, but given i dont have a tv capable, whats the point? by the time i do they'll probably be sub £100 as standalone units, so theres no need there...

So ,m still undecided....
