Information about having your tyres correctly inflated, avoiding harsh acceleration, removing roof racks when not needed etc has been in the highway code for donkeys years. So they are using the current concern about the environment to reiterate it, big deal.

It's the fact they'll chuck the CO2 argument onto anything that pees me off. Now if they'd just left it at improving your fuel economy then fine.

Still at least lightweight sportscars are seemed more acceptable in the government's eyes

My 1.0 litre car is much less economical than my 1.9 litre turbo-charged one. Just got 48mpg on a fun, high-revving drive to w*rk. I also remember a good letter in a motoring magazine from an old guy who'd kept check on all his cars for over 35 years of motoring. He stated that from the smallest 1.0 Polo to the 5.4 V12 BMW (IIRC) his average was always around 27mpg (+/- 3), so why restrict people to an engine size which requires excessive over-revving to get any life out of it when better economy can be had in larger units ?
