I have a Pioneer 636 DVD player, and want to upgrade it to be region free (or, more accurately, multi-region).
A company called MailUK in Manchester provides a while-u-wait service for 20 quid, and the mod works with RCE discs too.
Anyone ever used this company?
Cheers,
Nick.

It sounds cheap!
Little risk if its while you wait.
Check, what do they do if the bugger your machine?
Are you still in Warranty for DVD player? If so consider warranty void as chips normally leave visible marks when removed.

It's a flash upgrade that's performed from outside the machine - the pioneer flash port is located in the air vent on the left...
Out of warranty in january. But I'll ask about the "what happens if you bugger it", as it's a good point!

Nick.

Ello,
i've uesd http://www.multiregionmagic.co.uk and http://www.techtronics.com/ and had no problems.
Though have to say a friend bought a new sony dvd player from techtronics two weeks ago, and after trying its first region 1 disc it became locked to region 1 and has had to ship it back (at his own expense) and hasn't had any update since.......

Channel Technologies website is here but they may be tied up at the minute with a legal issue with Sony (Re PS2) so I probably wouldn't get in touch with em just yet!

Hi all
I bit the bullet and drove across to get the upgrade done. Works with everything, as it's a manual region change which is just what I wanted. Macrovision has been disabled too, which is nice.
I'd recommend these guys as they're cheap don't shroud the re-programming of Pioneer players in mystery: they get the stuff from Pioneer, and flash files from elsewhere.
20 quid well spent. Especially when others wanted 50 quid - 100 quid for EXACTLY the same reprogramming of the flash memory.
Incidentally, the flash file was nigh-on 3MB. I didn't realise a DVD would need that much stuff in software!
Nick.
