Thumbs down Bugatti Veyron destroyed - possibly fatal...

I was going from Chertsey to Shepperton this afternoon and happened upon an accident. This was a bit different, as the car involved was a Bugatti Veyron(the really expensive one).
Seemed like he must have lost it big time in the wet. Car looked totalled.
Road was closed for sometime, and being measured, so I imagine it was a fatal.
Couldn't see any other traffic involved, but there may have been.
Anyone else heard anything or seen it?
I imagine if the driver was killed it will be someone in the public light, as cars like that tend to be owned by pop stars/footballers etc, but I suppose it could have been a lesser known businessman.

Near Shepperton, on a back road.
Not sure of the number, near Littleton Lakes.

A sort of maroon'ish colour, but it was in such a mess it was difficult to say.

Can I lay bets on it being a footballer? Not that I would even dream of doing such a thing when fatalities are concerned, but I do have that niggling thought in the back of my head.....

Found more details here:-
Motor Authority » First Bugatti Veyron crash

and here:-

PH: Veyron Crash

When I said it was Maroon, it's because it had blankets over it, according to my missus. Not sure if that was to hide any injurys to those inside, or more likely to stop people realising it was a Veyron.

Hardly totalled! Bit of front end damage, maybe bashed on the drivers side? Looks like an airbag may have gone off. Cant see the driver having any problems getting out of that.

I think it was the blankets over it that gave the impression it was much worse than it was.
Also we only saw it from a distance, so was tricky to tell.

The road was probably closed so they could bring in heavy lifting gear to get it out of the ditch.

Hardly surprising though is it. Conpletely unsuitable for British roads, and we all know how bad VAG group cars cars are when it comes to damping and poor chassis design.

I know where that is - no sharp bends but loads of standing water and quite often mud on the road.
Can't say i've ever seen anyone crash there before though??

Didn't want to accuse the poor chap of speeding ....
Perhaps he was distracted by a fox trotting across the road

I have to agree with Kiwi here. I honestly can't see the point of having a vehicle like that on public roads. It is a serious waste of money in the first place and you can't even begin to tickle that sort of performance unless you were on a track with at least having people generally all going in the same direction. Much as I have always enjoyed fast driving and powerful cars, this sort of thing is well over the top.

If you want to own something like that just for the sake of image, and to impress others with, that is your choice of course if you can afford to throw that kind of money away. Not much cop for anything else here I reckon.

Hope he was not badly hurt though.

Les, see your point, that ammount of performance is completely incompatiable with our roads, even an M5 or its ilk with half that power is.

Being sensible and sparing with the right foot might help but the temptation must be huge and despite its electronic, downforce an 4wd it still has to obey physics.

How does a Veyron compare to a modern big sportsbike, its on a par from what I remember below 150 then its quicker, having been on older sportsbikes and that terrifying me, that kind of performance in a car must be incomprehensible.

It would be easy to criticise the driver of this Bugatti but we dont know the facts and people crash cars every day.

I drove a Bugatti once, well, I steered my father in laws onto a trailer !

A friend spotted what could well be the same car on London's Berkeley Square last week.

He took a sequence of photos whilst it was being reversed into the Bentley dealership there. There's a mention of it being potentially a press car on PH, so I'd say that it's very likely it's the same car.

I cant see anybody buying a veyron for the image, because thats one unhealthy obsesion

Taken from Sky News website:

The 1,000 horsepower Bugatti - which can do 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds - is owned by a businessman in his 40s who runs a car hire and management company with his brothers, it was reported. It is claimed the vehicle was being rented to the driver for £20,000 a day.

Apparently he was doing 100mph in the rain and the passengers were a 7 month pregnant woman and a young boy.
