Help! Copyrighting Music
Hi All,
Does anyone know the best way to copyright your own music? I'm thinking about uploading a sample of some of my self penned music onto my MySpace and my band's website and I'm worried about people nicking the ideas?
I'm not really doing this to make the music famous, but the band does play these songs at our gigs and people use our MySpace and the website to track where we are playing and it would be good to play a bit of the songs while they are browsing?
Any Thoughts?
Cheers

Post a copy of the music/CD whatever to yourself with PO receipt and confirmation of date of posting. DO NOT OPEN when received but keep in safe place and this provides evidence that it was your work before someone else "borrowed" it.
Having said that ideas are copied so you have a fight on your hands when a No 1 hit bears an uncanny resemblance to your music.
Oh and join the Musicians Union (if not already a member) as they have loads of stuff on their site about this and all sorts of other things a band would find useful. Plus free insurance for a £1000 for an instrument IIRC.

I'll try and check then as I don't want to give out misleading info and it's what my boy does for music he writes. I'll see what the MU has to say when I can locate my p/word!
Dan's the man though, not me. Do you know why your colleagues think this?

Well the advice about posting to yourself is still given on MU site. I can't copy and paste as it's an adobe thing.
MUSICIANS UNION
But you need p/word for advice stuff.
