Other TomTom GOs CAN read road names!
Really cool -and a 'heads up' for those that didn't realise this (and probably, like me, contemplated buying a 910 for exactly this functionality)!!!
I've just found out this evening that other models of TomTom GO that don't normally support the full text-to-speech that the new 910 does (and comes supplied with) CAN run the same software and read all the directions out in the same way as the 910 does!
I've got it running on my GO 500 now - and it's great... Apparently it'll also work on the 700, the 510 and the 710 - as you need a reasonably powerful processor (so not sure if the 300 or ONE will work).
If you Google hard enough you'll probably find out how to get "LoquendoTTS" running on your GO too....
If you're really stuck, as I obviously can't post any s/w here or links here, drop me a PM and I'll try to help....
It's well worth the effort....

910 provides whole minutes of amusement when reading out texts if you have it paired with your mobile.
It does appear to be able to read out most words in a crappy 'text to speech' sort of way....
Try texting yourself a load of profanities- lets find out what it can't read, and report said words to TomTom, asking them to fix the 'bug'

Yes, I've had a play with this today as well - and my 500 now also reads out text messages, and warnings and traffic alerts and other stuff.
It's great! Off for a drive around now to see what else it does.
To be honest, the voice sounds excellent. Probably better than the non-computer voice, as it's more verbose. Good intonation as well.
I guess it would be better at reading text messages if muppets didn't just send "c u l8tr m8 bout 8" instead of "See you later mate, about 8pm."
