Digital Radios
I rather fancy one of these but Beeb website says my area is not covered for mainstream channels. Anyhow my local electrical shop loaned me a Roberts DAB and it worked and sounded great, so much clearer than my current collection of cat's whiskers
So what do I get? Anyone with experience? Haven't got a fortune. Prices seem to vary from £30 on e-bay to £170-ish from shop? The loaned jobby was around £70 but a discontinued model.
Must have mains power option.
TIA, dl

Pure Digital make a decent range, everything from "hi-fi" separates to stand-alone units. Worth a look on their site Welcome to PURE Digital - World Leaders in DAB Digital Radio
Tivoli Audio is also good if your budget stretches that far Tivoli Audio, LLC - Tivoli Audio
To be honest, there's little to choose between them, Digital has evened out the playing field so it's more a case of features and aesthetics rather than performance considerations.

Thanks for that chaps. I was worried that if I got something at the "cough" cheaper end of the market, it would have a poor signal system and I wouldn't get the channels, bearing in mind that my area is marginal anyway for signal strength.

I looked into this and got the standard Pure mono one, its great, looked at the cheaper brands, the ones like Ferguson who ape the wooden look of the Pure but they get rubbish reviews, Pure are doing a Marshall style one which is pretty funky looking if thats your thing, I just got the wood one as it wasnt out for a while and patience isnt one of my key strenghs !

Meaningless statement
Unless you've been convinced by the What Hi-Fi hype and believe that just because they made good solid state radios they *must* make class leading digital radios??
Put it this way, in a blind listening test, you couldn't tell a Roberts radio from an equivalent Pure radio. I guarantee it. Don't be led on by marketing.

A Roberts one? If so, you were lucky. They recently brought out a bedside radio alarm. We don't have time to go into all its faults and shortfalls, save to say i don't think anyone at Roberts had got anywhere NEAR testing one of these China-made efforts. An embarrassment to what was once a great British company.

Got one of these and the sound is excellent - My main stereo isn't digital so it often gets used as a subsitute tuned into Chill or similar.
Would be lost without DAB now!

Hey thanks guys. I've bought a £39 job from e-bay (new). One of those wood framed things but matches my desk where it will sit. I'll just use this in my office and get the hang on what they are all about. In a couple of months I'll go and listen to a few in a John Lewis or somewhere and get a decent one bearing your comments in mind. Might even get to hear England scoring a run out in Oz
