to give a sense of scale the concrete posts at the top of the picture are 1' square and about 4' apart
His tail is the same length again as his body

At first glance, because of the way he was swimming we thought he was a crocodile (we are six floors up) but once he moved his head it was an easy spot I tried to take his picture from the water's edge but he disappears under as soon as he sees you

There are a fair few lizards in our particular stretch, but none of the others are even half this guy's size
