Default Central heating recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a central heatin system/installer? My dad's looking at getting it done and I've told him to get instant hot water with it, but other than that I know nothing. He'll be looking at about 6 radiators and a combi boiler (I assume)

Are any national companies worth using? or go for a local company? We're in the southern part of North Yorkshire if anyone knows anyone.

I suggest that you go to your local builders/plumbers merchants and ask the staff for local corgi registered engineers.

Yes I work at a BM and I recommend contractors all the time....it's often the best way to get quality workmanship without being ripped off. Many companies also offer heating packs that include a boiler, rads upto a certain total Btu, pipe, fittings and valves.

I also recommend that you get 3 or 4 quotes and also price the project yourself and ask for a labour quote.

It's a buyers market at the minute and the cost savings are massive.

FWIW I would recommend that you get a price from British Gas and then you'll get an idea what extortion really is.

As far as boiler are concerned, you can't really get a better combi then a Vaillant Ecomax or a Baxi 105 instant.........remember to buy on the flow rates of the boiler and NOT the bTu output.

Hope this helps.

SI.

As above, get a few quotes from various plumbers...Use ONLY those who have been recomended, I used cowboys who appeared to be cheap, only to have to fork out again for someone to do it properly...it really isnt worth getting cowboys in...

And dont be afraid to haggle a price for the job, If you're paying cash you should be able to get a good amount knocked off.

flow rates are litres per minute and British Gas are expensive.

Dont get cowboys to do the job, always ask for their corgi card and see if they are competent to do the job.

I wouldn't get cowboys in. Skoosh said he recommended poeple, I just wondered if he got feedback so that he knew he wasn't recommending cowboys.

Classical gas in Cottingham (Hull) did a good job changing my boiler. Don't know if you're too far away for them. 01482 875897 and they have a website.

Cheers, Diccy.

The one thing I would recommend thinking about is where do you want the CH pipes to run and rads to go.
A company may position the rads and pipe work any old how for speed and cost.

Personally I wouldn't go for a Combi again. We have a mahoosive one with integral water store as we didn't want pressure drop issues with 2 showers running. Still have pressure drop, Baxi have been out and confirm everthing is within normal parameters.
