Default Any Vet's here?

I need advice as my Border Collie isn't at all well, he is breathing really fast as if he has pulmonary hypertension, his nose is dry and he basically looks like **** on a shovel, could it be pneumonia? I dunno but I'm really worried about the old guy, any help appreciated

Tam

Is it worth leaving until later though? If you're concerned ring the vet, they won't come out unless they need to, they could give you some advice to make him comfortable for tonight and take him to a vet in the morning

You could try giving him some anti-histamine, like Benadryl, a childs dose, to see if that helps him, that should calm him down at least. Just put a tablet or two in some cheese....

lol I gave him some Calpole (sp) he has really settled down now, still breathing fast, but not as fast as before, taking him to the vet first thing tomorrow, I'll let you know how he gets on.

Thanx guys

Sorry Steph I wasn't on this morning but I took him to the Vet, he needs to go back tomorrow as the Vet has no idea what is wrong and the old guy needs to get X - rays tomorrow Vet says all seems fine although he took 50 breaths per min and it should only be about ten The old guy did drop a rather large ****e on the Vets floor after his temperature was taken, so I know it's not constipation

I'll let you know how things go tomorrow

Thanx for your concern

Well today I got the news I was dreading, The old guys x ray showed a few tumors, one of which is rather large and is causing the breathing problems, Vet said on the phone she could let him go to sleep now or give him steroids which may calm it for a week or so.

Decided I wanted time for us to say goodbye to him etc, he is home tonight but he'll have to go for the jag this week, I really don't want him to suffer any, sorry I can't type anymore

Tam I'm really sorry.
it's difficult ( I had to do the same thing with my 7 year old cat when he had tumours)ut just remeber he won't be suffering, and you are doing the best thing for him, and he knows you love him.

What a horrible decision you have had to make.

I dread the day.

Is it worth getting a second opinion?

No mate the tumors look to be spread around and he's far to old to go for a big operation to remove them unfortunately

Scary thing is he was always a healthy dog, I noticed on NYE he was breathing odd, since then his health has deteriorated extremely rapidly, he looks 10 yrs older in a week and can no longer go for his usual walk as he gets far too tired Apparently these tumors grow at a very fast rate.

I'm gutted
