Default Changing internet providers

I have been/was with Wanadoo/Orange for over 12 months and decided to change in december.
I cancelled with orange as they said they couldn't provide me with a "mac code" and was then told i could go with a new provider after 10 days when the line had cleared.

I then signed up with Sky and after a further 15 days finally got connected.
Sky is pretty good as i got a wireless router which is marvelous, and no monthly bill. It was a one off payment of 40.00. Can't argue with that.

If you want to change providers consider wether you can do without internet/scoobynet for a couple of weeks.

I was like a bear with a sore head.

Hello

It depends who you are with: Any ISP still connected to BT Wholesale (i.e. most of them) will issue a MAC and the transition is seamless. In that BT schedule the transfer date and then will 'unplug' you from your current ISP and then plug you into your new one. Down time should be a few minutes.

If you are going from an ISP that is part of LLU (Local Loop unbundling) (such as BE*, Sky, Some of Wanadoo) it gets more complicated. They do not have to issue a MAC and will simply cease your ADSL and tell BT. After a period of time (10 days usually) you can then re-order.

This is all set to change in the middle of February when LLU companies also have to issue MAC's.
