Wild Shot ....
Anyone on here know of a Micra 5-Speed Gearbox laying around, unloved?
From a 1.0Litre Micra older than a 1998 car.
Wifey's Micra will go into gear fine, clutch seems to work, bring it up to biting point and its as if the brakes are on Looks like a Transmission fault
49,000mile 1997 Micra worth about £1000? Not sure what to spend before it becomes uneconomical to repair?

1. Buy another 1997 1.0Litre Micra and have 2 - one for spares = about £900.
2. Buy a Gearbox from Scrappie, unknown quality, about £100 and have fitted for £150. = £250 + Oil + £40 Clutch Kit = £300.
3. Buy 6 month old Micra and run into ground - £6000.
4. Get Gearbox re-conditioned at a cost of £500 all in.
Wifey does about 1500miles a year - nothing more.

i would go for a £100 run around for those sort of miles and not **** around putting a gearbox in a 10 year old micra.

Must admit when I had my first car (an old Chevette, quite a while ago !),
I got my local garage to fit a gearbox from a scrappy (the g/box was £30 !).
It didn't work, so I did the same thing again. The second box was crap as well !!

It really confuses me how you claim such a high income and wealth, plus advanced years yet are p1ssing about with old Nissan Micra's ?
Its just not worth the aggro (unless you enjoy doing it), been there and done that in the past, different drive flanges, revised selectors etc.
So if you are as wealthy as you claim buy your wife a decent, working modern, safe and reliable car and leave the old sheddy Micra's to the student population where they belong, i.e. with those who cannot afford anything better.
It gets to a point where the time spent organising isnt worth bothering with, I am by no means a high roller but would advertise the Micra for spares and repairs and buy something decent !
