Default Christmas Boxes for the Troops

Currently working overseas for Queen and Country (your welcome ) and I had my Christmas Box from the government on Christams morning, which contained the following:

A wind-up snail
Santa Hat
2 x Herbal tea-bags
Box of naafi tea
Keyring condiment set (garlic powder, chilli powder, curry powder)
Flashing red nose
Magnetic photo frame (with pic Liz and Phil)
Camouflage neoprene beer can sleeve
Mini-torch
Tiny Christmas cake
Foldable cup (genius)
Balloons

Some good stuff there. Apparently 18,500 were sent last year, and nearly 25,000 this year. That's a lot of money that some kind people have donated to the UK4You fund.

Very nice, but Im sure the troops would have prefered to find some body armour and a bit of ammo.

These have improved. I got 1 two years ago and it had bubble bath in it, most handy in the deserts of Iraq . I'm not complaining it was better than nothing .

Why do we pay for anything??

They take the Queens shilling - they do and go where the British Government say they go and do what we require of them ............... can't see why my money buys a Xmas Box for them?

It's like the bloody Firemen ..... they all have ideas of grandeur that simply do NOT apply!!

And for your information, I joined the RAF for a decent secure job, not to spend months away from home in the desert fighting for the Yanks.

A party bag with a scratch and sniff eraser, a slice of cake and a paper hat have pleased infants, the profoundly disabled and soldiers alike for time immemorial!

Ah, I have just been enlightened to the fact that you're a bit of a ****, so will ignore you from now on and just keep taking the wage that you pay me.

Thanks to everyone else for their support

Why have a go at the disabled ??

Having spent 27 odd years as a soldier I find your remark very offensive!!!! Many members of SN spend a large amount of time raising fund for charities for people with disabilities, as do the military.

Tell that to Stephen Hawkins you great wit and comedian...............****!!!!

Ah welcome pslewis thought you'd be along soon. These boxes are made up from donations from various companies and charities NOT your (taxpayers) money. A very nice gesture they are too.

No issue with donations at all ........ it's all the vomit-inducing sop I can't stomach.

I wish all the Services a great Xmas and New Year ...... but - NOT because they are doing what we pay them for - just because I am a really nice person

You accuse me of 'having a go' at the disabled? I put it to you that you only find it 'offensive' because I have likened your childlike mind with that of someone with sentient retardation and that you consider yourself better?

A plastic Snail, just what you need to take your mind of death, land mines, suicide bombers, crap or non existent equipment, officers, oppressive heat, sand, no sex, getting shot at, being away from family and friends, huge bugs etc.

How about,

12 beers
some ****
A PSP
Decent Armour
etc

At least we'd have the element of surprise - they'd be busy looking for soldiers in tanks, not on snailback
