What's Your Sickness Record Like At Work?
Just checked my sickness record and since joining the company 1/4/97, I've had 6 sick days. I don't think that's bad for nearly 10 years service.
The only reason I asked is because I've just discovered a girl in our department who got a 12% payrise had 42 days off for "stress" this year
I got a 2% rise - I know what I'm doing wrong now. I'll be taking lots of stress leave in 2007

I average around 2 days a year, mostly because of what our son brings back home from the creche. I have an employee who hasn't had a day sick in 5 years and always works hard too. In fact I expect she's busy beavering away, whilst I'm taking a break here
Finally, you get no extra awards for 100% attendance, so a few sick days are fine where warranted.

that's pretty good, though I've worked with marters (sp) who come in on death's door, and make everyone elsoe ill too.
I was harndly ever ill until I had a kid (well, not me personnaly), now I get everything doing the rounds at the nursery!
Still only had 4 days in the last 3 years I think.
Took 2 weeks of when I worked for HBO$, following a knee op, as they wouldn't let me use the disabled parking bays, and I couldn't make it up the steps to the building.

I am a contractor for an investement Bank, I only took 5 days off this year, a week in Cornwall and very nice it was to. The only thing was I kept thinking how much money I was losing.....
42 days, thats not far off 1 day a week.

Took 0 days in 2006, but, as a contractor, I will go to work if I've got a bad case of black death with a side order of bronchitis.
Then I give all the permies my lurgy, they take loads of skive days, deadlines take a hit and I increase my chance of renewal.
Having said that, even when a permanoid, I would only take the odd day off a year, normally a self inflicted injury or hangover as the reason.

One of the latest issues to hit organisations is (wait for it) "Presenteeism" - i.e. people coming in to work when they are clearly not well, contagious etc.
There have been a couple of interesting cases at tribunal where organisations who reward 100% attendance have gotten themselves rapped knuckles.......

We get an extra days holiday for every 6 months with no sick day.
Its cool but means that people come in really ill because they are a week away from an extra day off.
Saying that - there are loads of work shy gits at this place who always take loads of sick days - just enough to not get asked for a doctors note.
Im sick of it !!

ive had... wait for it....
72 days off this year.
60 for my car crash when i had a nasty dose of whiplash,
and 12 for the accident at work when i skidded on a spillage that shouldnt have been there (for which im sueing them now as they deemed it necessary to punish me for this )
so in all not the best year, but its very very rare i have time off for things like colds etc. only when im genuinly sick, like asthma attacks etc. even been at work this week with food poisoning, granted not serious, but terrible firing from both barrels simultaniuosly!

Worked for the same firm for 21years.
No sick days at all until April 2004 when I had a heart attack.
I had 13weeks off but not another day since.
Luckily they payed me full pay all the time I was off.
Cheers

My company's employment conditions states: that sick periods of a maximum 10 days over a 6 month period are acceptable. Any more and you get taken in for a talking to.
So that's 1 week in the Spring (add that to Easter), 1 week in the Summer (add that to my 2 weeks holiday), 1 week in the Autumn (keep that for a DIY week) and 1 week in the Winter (after New Year to include the Autosport Show)
God know's what I'll do if I'm actually ill.

Also some people take "sickies" to "make up" for poor annual leave allowances. Mines fine hence it's rare for me to be off sick. My Bruv in Law gets just 20 days incl Bank Holidays! He's always off sick ...

27 days in 6 years for me,20 of those this year, due to four Mindless thugs, drugged up looking for a fight.Yes i was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
One of the Bosses at the branch i work at,has 20yrs under his belt without a sick day.Needless to say he thinks everybody should be the same, evn his son when he worked there was not allowed to stay off when genually ill.
My current boss, was the company's worst offender, alway used to phone in SICK on a Friday and Monday.Yet when any of his staff phoned in sick he would jump down there throats.

Other than hospital ops, a few days in my working life.. 16+years.
the oly time i was really ill, was when one of my early bosses was banging on about working through colds and flue etc.
So i tried it, and collapsed with a strep infection... one week off

Its simple, if I am ill, I dont go into work, I turn up on time every other day, do my hours and then go home.
I worked at the Police, I had a few days off but didnt take the ****, so many were banned from self certifying which is bad, its either they take the **** like so many do but I also think employers need to look at why, there is usually a reason and sometimes it not that the person is a lazy ****.
I have done the turning in when ill thing and sometimes you perk up but most times not and its better for all concerned if you stay at home as you may infect the office malingerer !
We had a legendary bloke called Tad, month upon month he was off, alledgedly with a bad back but he would come in and tell us about lumping bags of rubble around about and servicing his car, now correct me if I am am wrong a back bad enough to preclude you sitting on your **** in an office does not allow building work ?
