Default Poker tournaments

Was in a poker tournament (no limit texas hold'em) last night and got onto the final table.

Question is to those who play is can anyone suggest and any time to split the pot or would you have to be chip leader???

I came 4th out of about 100 players and won £200

if u were playing at the grosvenor, they normally split between the top 3.

but at the moment with this leauge thing on, people tend not to share if they are high up in the leauge, because if u split the winnings u split the points aswell.

ive been in the final 3 places 2 times in the last 2weeks and the others declined the offer of a split.

It depends on the venue as to whether a deal is possible or not but more often than not it is. Afterall, even if you can't officially deal and have to play it out a deal can still be struck on the sly. Anyone can suggest a deal at anytime but obviously if a short-stack tries to pipe up and gain a deal that is favourable to him he's unlikely to be entertained

aspers players will deal if u ask them. but like i say its normally the last 3 players, unless its for bigger money, the tuesday nite at aspers is £50 + rebuys and they dealt last week, was a guaranteed 6k so the final 6 players dealt.

whats the rule regarding three of a kind, i had AJ, he had AQ and he won, saying "***** won, three of a kind aces" when i'm in the same situation but with the higher next card, the pot is always split?

the highest 5 cards wins .

if he had AAAQ? and you had AAAJ? then he wins .

but as you say sometimes its split , maybe your other hole card wasnt high enough to qualify . like A4 .

if you have A5 and your opponent has A4 if the flop comes out with AAKQJ then the pot will be shared as you both have AAAKQ getting used . the 5 or 4 doesnt come into it

At showdown every player has 7 cards available to him to make the best 5 card hand. He can use any of the seven meaning (in a very unlikely example) that everyone in the pot would split a board of 3,3,3,3,A as the nuts (best possible hand) is on the board.

Therefore if the board was A,A,2,K,7 then AJ loses to AQ because the hands are:

AAAKQ

vs

AAAKJ

You can see the second kicker plays here.

If the board was A,A,K,K,7 then its a split as both players have AAAKK.

^^^ Incidently, this is why your 'kicker' card is so important and in turn why preflop selection is so important

I have a question about how the pot gets distributed.

Imagine this situation:

Player A: 1000 (all in)
Player B: 1000 (all in)
Player C: 1000 (all in)

And player A wins. Does that mean player A gets the whole pot? I thought you could only get twice as much as you put in (and in this case player A put in 1000 so should only get 2000?)

And what would happen in this situation where player A wins?

Player A: 900 (all in)
Player B: 1000 (all in)
Player C: 1000 (all in)

I think I could understand this if rule is that each losing player has to give the winning player the amount that the winning player put in (so in this case both players would give player A 900). But is this how the rules work?

If 3 players go all in for 1000 then the winner take a 3000 chip pot.

In scenario 2 if player A moves all in for 900 chips then player B can call 900 or raise to 1000. If he moves all in for 1000 then player C can fold or call 1000 (he cannot call 900 anymore as the stakes have been raised by player B). If he calls then a 2700 main pot is created with a 200 side pot between player B and C. If player A has the best hand he takes the main pot and the best hand between players B and C takes the 200. If either of players B or C have the best overall hand they win the whole lot. If say, player A and C split the pot then they would split the 2700 main pot and player C would win all of the sub pot.

This can get very complicated in live environments when you get a main pot and several sub pots!!! Thankfully, online its taken care of
