cheers Neil,

don't suppose you have the executable anywhere that you could email my work account?

Having massive difficulty downloading it, keeps dropping out.

cheers,

Unhappy

I have had many problems with downloading it to and I have a download acelorator!

Finally got it downloaded and it's asking for a serial number, for this you have to fill in varius details on a info sheet including e mail address and it will be sent, which I've done 3 times and still no e mail off them.

Hope this isnt a sign of how good the companys software is!

May have to look elsewhere.

McAfee Virus scan is only about £25 from PCWorld (think thats about how much I payed). Seems a bargain for one of the top notch scanning engines and rapidly updated virus packages. You also get up-to-the-minute information and support right here on the BBS from Jack Clark(who also gives gentle reminders when you haven't updated in a while )

In the true scoobynet way of valuing products - well worth half a tank of petrol ! (or about 120 miles driving )

AVG Free Edition download is due to overwhelming interest in AVG antivirus not available now. AVG Free distribution will be open again at the latest on 1st December 2001. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Did anyone manage to get the serial number, or can you point me to the serial number reg page?

My executable is on the home PC, and I'm at work, thought I'd try and get the serial number afore the Yanks get in!

This link <removed for a while> will install Antivirus software for you.

Please note that this is commercial grade Antivirus software that you are receiving free of charge. Don't expect much support if it goes **** up. Once it's installed that should be it, no need to update dat file, engine or program. I can see from any web browser if things are OK. If you connect to the internet for short times only then I suggest clicking the icon now and then, this will manualy update the software.

Try to uninstall any Antivirus software already on your system before installation.

Please do not pass this URL to all and sundry.

Details of this service can be seen here www.mcafeeasap.com

Jack,

A couple of questions about it.
I've run this SW for ages, and it's very

If for example I decide to run an attachment(like the badtrans one) from outlook will it go "OI Neil NO" or will it let me run it, then tell me i've a virus. I know it'll scan when I ask it to, but will it hook into outlook/internet explorer etc and prevent me running anything iffy. I've had a couple of badtrans sent to me, but dealt with it manually rather than test the virus checker!

Also is there anyway of speeding the scanning up. Takes ages on my 1.3Ghz Athlon?

Hmm!! Are others managing to download this ok? Do you get a message saying when it has completed? Mine has been stuck at preparing to install with a large yellow bar underneath for ages.

I'm running XP.

cheers,

greg

Neil, it checks all the time - On Access - if you try to run an infected attachment it'll refuse you permission. The scan you run - On Demand - does take ages, I wouldn't bother with it. It's legacy stuff from the days when our On Demand scanner would detect more than the On Access.

Greg, you'll have trouble with XP. This version should be out shortly.

The orange icon is the icon for the product. Click on it now and then to reasure yourself that it's up to date. Greg, send me a mail at jclark@nai.com and I'll send you the clean up utility in the morning.
