Default Insurance claim for aborted holiday?

Anybody in the travel / insurance business, or have experience?
1) Few weeks ago booked to go away for Christmas with mum + sister
2) Yesterday sister had unplanned operation on her back and very unlikley she will be allowed to fly (having at least 6 weeks off work, no driving etc) Was kinda long term thing - but she got results of final scans a few days ago and they said they could fit her in straight away.
3) So far I'd not got round to getting travel insurance....if I get it now can I claim for cancelled holiday? No chance?

It'd be fraud, which needless to say is illegal and can carry a jail sentence. They'd easily find that you've taken the policy out AFTER the diagnosis.

You would have been able to claim if you had travel insurance in place.

You can't claim for a cancellation that predates the policy though.

It helps if you have an annual policy, then insurance is already in place.

But I suppose not everyone is as greedy as us and have holidays every season.

Most was 14 holidays (if you included long weekends of 3 or more days) over a 30 month period

Bob - Finished work for the week.

some credit cards & bank accounts have holiday insurance built in.

inquire if any of your party are already covered

Default How much / little work would you like to do?

As title, how little work would you like to get away with and still earn a crust?

It's Wednesday today and I've already taken the rest of the week off as I've earned enough cash for me in 2 days so don't see the point of overdoing for the taxman to take it, plus its my birthday on Sat (41)

When I was younger, I would happily work 12 hr days 7 days a week 'cos I liked the money, but these days I just cant be bothered.

We have what we want in life, couple of motors, couple of houses, 4+ holidays a year, so whats the point of working harder?

I just cannot be @rsed with working anymore so might have to bring forward my planned retirement from 50 to 45 which gives me 4 more years of work.

Whats other peoples plans?

Bob

If you're taking out holiday insurance, they ask about pre-existing medical conditions. Anything that involved hospitalisation within the last 12 months is pretty much always exempt from the cover. Had experience of this myself when I went on holiday a couple of months back - I've got gallstones which involved a few scans/minor ops (and surgery to come), had to declare this and any problems with those during the holiday were at my own liability.
